SciPost is a not-for-profit, by-and-for scientists organization aiming to reform the world of scientific publishing.

Our initiative is currently implementing a large-scale expansion strategy involving the upscaling of activities within the field of Physics as well as the development of similar services in other areas including Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

As part of this expansion, SciPost is looking to hire a general editorial assistant.

Job description

This job will require you to get involved in a varied and wide-ranging set of activities:

  • Providing general assistance for all our editorial processes, including

    • Quality control (plagiarism and conflict-of-interest checks)

    • Assistance to Fellows in their handling of submissions

    • Proofs, end production, publication and maintenance of published content

  • Promoting awareness of SciPost's publishing services within the scientific community

  • Assisting in the formation and maintenance of Editorial Colleges

  • Liaising with current and potential Sponsors

Though the head office is situated in Amsterdam's Science Park, this job provides the opportunity to work remotely and flexibly.

Required qualifications

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ease at working collaboratively

  • Capability for learning new skills quickly, and for working adaptively

  • Graduate-level education (minimal MSc, preferably PhD) in one of the following fields: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics.

Conditions

You will be employed by the SciPost Foundation. The Foundation has adopted the complete terms of employment laid down in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities ('cao NU'). The salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be €2,709 to €4,274 (scale 10) gross per month, based on fulltime appointment (38 hours a week). These amounts are exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. SciPost offers attractive working conditions, including flexible scheduling. The appointment will be initially for a period of one year, with extension to longer-term appointment upon satisfactory performance.
