• Finite-size corrections in critical symmetry-resolved entanglement

  In the presence of a conserved quantity, symmetry-resolved entanglement entropies are a refinement of the usual notion of entanglement entropy of a subsystem. For critical 1d quantum systems, it was recently shown in various contexts that these quantities generally obey entropy equipartition in the scaling limit, i.e. they become independent of the symmetry sector. In this paper, we examine the finite-size corrections to the entropy equipartition phenomenon, and show that the nature of the symmetry group plays a crucial role. In the case of a discrete symmetry group, the corrections decay algebraically with system size, with exponents related to the operators' scaling dimensions. In contrast, in the case of a U(1) symmetry group, the corrections only decay logarithmically with system size, with model-dependent prefactors. We show that the determination of these prefactors boils down to the computation of twisted overlaps.

• Efficient and flexible approach to simulate low-dimensional quantum lattice models with large local Hilbert spaces

  Quantum lattice models with large local Hilbert spaces emerge across various fields in quantum many-body physics. Problems such as the interplay between fermions and phonons, the BCS-BEC crossover of interacting bosons, or decoherence in quantum simulators have been extensively studied both theoretically and experimentally. In recent years, tensor network methods have become one of the most successful tools to treat such lattice systems numerically. Nevertheless, systems with large local Hilbert spaces remain challenging. Here, we introduce a mapping that allows to construct artificial $U(1)$ symmetries for any type of lattice model. Exploiting the generated symmetries, numerical expenses that are related to the local degrees of freedom decrease significantly. This allows for an efficient treatment of systems with large local dimensions. Further exploring this mapping, we reveal an intimate connection between the Schmidt values of the corresponding matrix\hyp product\hyp state representation and the single\hyp site reduced density matrix. Our findings motivate an intuitive physical picture of the truncations occurring in typical algorithms and we give bounds on the numerical complexity in comparison to standard methods that do not exploit such artificial symmetries. We demonstrate this new mapping, provide an implementation recipe for an existing code, and perform example calculations for the Holstein model at half filling. We studied systems with a very large number of lattice sites up to $L=501$ while accounting for $N_{\rm ph}=63$ phonons per site with high precision in the CDW phase.

• Effective free-fermionic form factors and the XY spin chain

  We introduce effective form factors for one-dimensional lattice fermions with arbitrary phase shifts. We study tau functions defined as series of these form factors. On the one hand we perform the exact summation and present tau functions as Fredholm determinants in the thermodynamic limit. On the other hand simple expressions of form factors allow us to present the corresponding series as integrals of elementary functions. Using this approach we re-derive the asymptotics of static correlation functions of the XY quantum chain at finite temperature.

• Chiral magnetism: a geometric perspective

  We discuss a geometric perspective on chiral ferromagnetism. Much like gravity becomes the effect of spacetime curvature in theory of relativity, the Dzyaloshinski-Moriya interaction arises in a Heisenberg model with nontrivial spin parallel transport. The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya vectors serve as a background SO(3) gauge field. In 2 spatial dimensions, the model is partly solvable when an applied magnetic field matches the gauge curvature. At this special point, solutions to the Bogomolny equation are exact excited states of the model. We construct a variational ground state in the form of a skyrmion crystal and confirm its viability by Monte Carlo simulations. The geometric perspective offers insights into important problems in magnetism, e.g., conservation of spin current in the presence of chiral interactions.

• Transport signature of the magnetic Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition

  Motivated by recent experimental progress in 2D magnetism, we theoretically study spin transport in 2D easy-plane magnets at finite temperatures across the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) phase transition, by developing a duality mapping to the 2+1D electromagnetism with the full account of spin's finite lifetime. In particular, we find that the non-conservation of spin gives rise to a distinct signature across the BKT transition, with the spin current decaying with distance power-law (exponentially) below (above) the transition; this is detectable in the proposed experiment with NiPS$_3$ and CrCl$_3$.

• Finite-temperature photoemission in the extended Falicov-Kimball model: a case study for Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$

  Utilizing the unbiased time-dependent density-matrix renormalization group technique, we examine the photoemission spectra in the extended Falicov-Kimball model at zero and finite temperatures, particularly with regard to the excitonic insulator state most likely observed in the quasi-one-dimensional material Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$. Working with infinite boundary conditions, we are able to simulate all dynamical correlation functions directly in the thermodynamic limit. For model parameters best suited for Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ the photoemission spectra show a weak but clearly visible two-peak structure, around the Fermi momenta $k\simeq\pm k_{\rm F}$, which suggests that Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ develops an excitonic insulator of BCS-like type. At higher temperatures, the leakage of the conduction-electron band beyond the Fermi energy becomes distinct, which provides a possible explanation for the bare non-interacting band structure seen in time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiments.

• Entanglement gap, corners, and symmetry breaking

  We investigate the finite-size scaling of the lowest entanglement gap $\delta\xi$ in the ordered phase of the two-dimensional quantum spherical model (QSM). The entanglement gap decays as $\delta\xi=\Omega/\sqrt{L\ln(L)}$. This is in contrast with the purely logarithmic behaviour as $\delta\xi=\pi^2/\ln(L)$ at the critical point. The faster decay in the ordered phase reflects the presence of magnetic order. We analytically determine the constant $\Omega$, which depends on the low-energy part of the model dispersion and on the geometry of the bipartition. In particular, we are able to compute the corner contribution to $\Omega$, at least for the case of a square corner.

• Signatures of folded branches in the scanning gate microscopy of ballistic electronic cavities

  We demonstrate the emergence of classical features in electronic quantum transport for the scanning gate microscopy response in a cavity defined by a quantum point contact and a micron-sized circular reflector. The branches in electronic flow characteristic of a quantum point contact opening on a two-dimensional electron gas with weak disorder are folded by the reflector, yielding a complex spatial pattern. Considering the deflection of classical trajectories by the scanning gate tip allows to establish simple relationships of the scanning pattern, which are in agreement with recent experimental findings.

• Spin-polarized two-dimensional electron/hole gases on LiCoO$_2$ layers.

  First-principles calculations show the formation of a 2D spin polarized electron (hole) gas on the Li (CoO$_2$) terminated surfaces of finite slabs down to a monolayer, in remarkable contrast with the bulk band structure, which is stabilized by Li donating its electron to the CoO$_2$ layer forming a Co-$d-t_{2g}^6$ insulator. By mapping the first-principles computational results to a minimal tight-binding models corresponding to a non-chiral 3D generalization of the quadripartite Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH4) model and symmetry analysis, we show that these surface states have topological origin.

• Weak topological insulating phases of hard-core-bosons on the honeycomb lattice

  We study the phases of hard-core-bosons on a two-dimensional periodic honeycomb lattice in the presence of an on-site potential with alternating sign along the different y-layers of the lattice. Using quantum Monte Carlo simulations supported by analytical calculations, we identify a weak topological insulator, characterized by a zero Chern number but non-zero Berry phase, which is manifested at either density 1/4 or 3/4, as determined by the potential pattern. Additionally, a charge-density-wave insulator is observed at 1/2-filling, whereas the phase diagram at intermediate densities is occupied by a superfluid phase. The weak topological insulator is further shown to be robust against any amount of nearest-neighbor repulsion, as well as weak next-nearest-neighbor repulsion. The experimental realization of our model is feasible in an optical lattice setup.
