Abstract

We study the spin-1/2 XX chain with a modulated Gamma interaction (GI), which results from the superposition of uniform and staggered Gamma terms. We diagonalize the Hamiltonian of the model exactly using the Fermionization technique. We then probe the energy gap and identify the gapped and gapless regions. We also examine the staggered chiral, staggered nematic and dimer order parameters to determine the different phases of the ground state phase diagram with their respective long-range orders. Our findings indicate that the model undergoes first-order, second-order, gapless-gapless, and gapped-gapped phase transitions.

Report #1 by Anonymous (Referee 1) on 2024-11-10 (Invited Report)

Report

The authors have addressed most of my previous concerns, but a few remain nevertheless, in particular concerning the issue of the transition at $\alpha = \pm 1$, see "Requested changes" for details.

Requested changes

1- Please double-check the last sentence of the abstract with respect to the correctness at $\alpha = \pm 1$.
2- End of fourth paragraph on page 13 (the one starting with "Second"), there is still a use of the terminology "phase" that in my opinion is not quite correct. Please double-check.
3- Second half of page 13: the starred list ("$*$") should be typeset with the LaTeX itemize environment.
4- Third paragraph on page 14 (the one starting with "Moreover"): again, please double-check if the first sentence of this paragraph is correct including the case $\alpha = \pm 1$.
5- At the beginning of Ref. [25], there is a stray "]" that I had not noticed before.

Recommendation

Publish (easily meets expectations and criteria for this Journal; among top 50%)

  • validity: high
  • significance: good
  • originality: ok
  • clarity: high
  • formatting: excellent
  • grammar: excellent

(in reply to Report 1 on 2024-11-10)

Dear Referee,

Thank you for your careful review. We have double-checked the last sentence of the abstract and the first sentence of the third paragraph on page 14, and can confirm that they are accurate. These sentences do not pertain to the line $\alpha = \pm 1$.

Additionally, we have revised the fourth paragraph of page 13 as you suggested. The starred list ("∗") has been replaced with the LaTeX itemize environment.

Regards,

Saeed Mahdavifar
