Abstract

We revisit the exact thermodynamic description of the classical sine-Gordon field theory, a well-known integrable model. We found that existing results in the literature based on the soliton-gas picture did not correctly take into account light, but extended, solitons and thus led to incorrect results. This issue is regularized upon requantization: we derive the correct thermodynamics by taking the semiclassical limit of the quantum model. Our results are then extended to transport settings by means of Generalized Hydrodynamics.

List of changes

As requested by the first Referee:
1. We clarify that the semiclassical limit can be taken along the reflectionless points [3.1 first subsection].
2. The issues of quasi-local charges and the applicability of the Hellmann-Feynman theorem is clarified [above Eq. (14) and above Eq. (16) and beginning of Sec 3.2].
3. The wording has been changed according to the Referee’s suggestions, typos have been fixed and the whole manuscript has been extensively proofread again.

As requested by the second Referee:
1. In section 3.2 we discuss how the expectation value of the vertex operator is relevant for current experiments.
2. Refs. [Phys. Rev. B 26, 1430 (1982)] and [Phys. Rev. B 25, 5806 (1982)] have been added to our reference list (number [30] and [31] of the updated version).

Strengths

As before

Weaknesses

Satisfactorily answered by the revision.

Report

I believe the work is suitable for Scipost Physics, and I recommend publication after the minor correction indicated below.

Requested changes

While the authors modified the paper, the phrase "expectation vertex" crept into Section 3.2. I think the authors meant "expectation value of the vertex operator". Please correct it.

  • validity: high
