Abstract
We provide a prescription for computing two-point tree-level amplitudes in the pure spinor formalism that provides finite results that agree with the corresponding expression in the field theories. In [arXiv:1906.06051v1-arXiv:1909.03672v3], the same result was discovered in the bosonic strings with indications of generalization to superstrings in the Ramond-Neveu-Schwarz formalism. Pure spinor formalism is the unique super-Poincare covariant approach to quantizing superstrings [arXiv:hep-th/0001035v2]. Since the pure spinor formalism is equivalent to other superstring formalisms, it verifies the above claim. We introduce a mostly BRST exact operator to achieve this.
Author comments upon resubmission
List of changes
General comments:
1. New equations in the main text are unnamed if added. This keeps the equations the same as in the older version.
2. There was a thorough check of grammar and many sentences have been modified in this light.
3. A new appendix E called "Requirement of a non-zero two-point string amplitude" in response to the query by referee 1.
Apart from this, here is a list of changes in the order of increasing page numbers.
1. Shortened the abstract.
2. More details about the gauge fixing were added: unnamed equation above before equation 1 is added.
3. Below equation 3, an equation describing pure spinor constraint was given as requested by referee 1.
4. Between equations 6 and 7, we described the epsilon symbol and the contour prescription.
5. Rewrote equation 12, so that the notation z_{12} is avoided.
6. In the conclusion section, we added a reference the new appendix E.
