Abstract:
Guillain–Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a peripheral polyneuropathy commonly preceded by infections. The present study focused on the immunogenetic underpinnings of the GBS. The profiling of infectious triggers in GBS has led to a precise understanding of the pattern of association between GBS and immunoreactivity against infectious microorganisms such as Campylobacter jejuni and the chikungunya virus. Candidate gene association, haplotype reconstruction and epistatic interaction analysis of the TLR pathway genes suggested the crucial role of TLR pathway genes in increasing the risk of GBS. Anti-JE immunoreactive serum from patients exhibited significantly high IgM response against the ganglioside GD1b.
