• Tau reconstruction at CMS with a focus on high $ p_{T} $ taus

  We present the algorithm and performance of tau reconstruction at the CMS experiment, while highlighting a dedicated reconstruction algorithm that uses calorimeter hits instead of tracks to reconstruct taus with high transverse momentum. Describing the standard Hadrons-Plus-Strips (HPS) algorithm and its dependence on track reconstruction and shower modelling, we present the calorimetric tau (calo-tau) reconstruction that uses minimal track information for high $ p_{T} $ taus. The pros and cons of these algorithms are discussed along with their performance and potential uses. It is found that the calo-tau algorithm outperforms the HPS algorithm in the high efficiency region. This study is work in progress, and is an attempt to tune the reconstruction for high $ p_{T} $ taus. The calo-tau algorithm is not yet an official tau reconstruction algorithm for CMS.

• Scaling limit of the staggered six-vertex model with $U_q\big(\mathfrak{sl}(2)\big)$ invariant boundary conditions

  We study the scaling limit of a statistical system, which is a special case of the integrable inhomogeneous six-vertex model. It possesses $U_q\big(\mathfrak{sl}(2)\big)$ invariance due to the choice of open boundary conditions imposed. An interesting feature of the lattice theory is that the spectrum of scaling dimensions contains a continuous component. By applying the ODE/IQFT correspondence and the method of the Baxter $Q$ operator the corresponding density of states is obtained. In addition, the partition function appearing in the scaling limit of the lattice model is computed, which may be of interest for the study of nonrational CFTs in the presence of boundaries. As a side result of the research, a simple formula for the matrix elements of the $Q$ operator for the general, integrable, inhomogeneous six-vertex model was discovered, that has not yet appeared in the literature. It is valid for a certain one parameter family of diagonal open boundary conditions in the sector with the $z$-projection of the total spin operator being equal to zero.

• Search for lepton-flavour-violating decays of the $Z$ boson into a $\tau$-lepton and a light lepton with the ATLAS detector

  Lepton flavour violation in the charged lepton sector is an unambiguous signal of physics beyond the Standard Model. Searches for lepton flavour violation in decays of the $Z$ boson with the ATLAS detector is reported, focusing on decays into an electron or muon and a hadronically decaying $\tau$-lepton, using $pp$ collisions data with a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Upper limits on the branching ratios of lepton-flavor-violating decays are set at the 95\% confidence level: $\mathcal{B}(Z\to e\tau) < 5.8\times10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(Z\to \mu\tau) < 2.4\times10^{-5}$. When combined with a previous ATLAS result based on $pp$ collisions data with a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, an upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(Z\to \mu\tau) < 1.3\times10^{-5}$ is obtained.

• Electric-dipole transitions in 6Li with a fully microscopic six-body calculation

  Exploring new excitation modes and the role of the nuclear clustering has been of great interest. An interesting speculation was made in the recent photoabsorption measurement of 6Li that implied the importance of the nuclear clustering. To understand the excitation mechanism of 6Li, we perform a fully microscopic six-body calculation on the electric-dipole (E1) transitions and discuss how 6Li is excited by the E1 field as a function of the excitation energy. We show the various cluster components in the six-body wave functions and discuss the role of the nuclear clustering in the E1 excitations of 6Li.

• Interpolating between the gauge and Schrödinger pictures of quantum dynamics

  Although spatial locality is explicit in the Heisenberg picture of quantum dynamics, spatial locality is not explicit in the Schrödinger picture equations of motion. The gauge picture is a modification of Schrödinger's picture such that locality is explicit in the equations of motion. In order to achieve this explicit locality, the gauge picture utilizes (1) a distinct wavefunction associated with each patch of space, and (2) time-dependent unitary connections to relate the Hilbert spaces associated with nearby patches. In this work, we show that by adding an additional spatially-local term to the gauge picture equations of motion, we can effectively interpolate between the gauge and Schrödinger pictures, such that when this additional term has a large coefficient, all of the gauge picture wavefunctions approach the Schrödginer picture wavefunction (and the connections approach the identity).

• Revisiting the flavor violating decays of the Tau and Mu leptons in the Standard Model with massive neutrinos

  The flavor violating leptonic decays of the $\tau$ and $\mu$ leptons into three lighter charged leptons are revisited in the framework the Standard Model with massive neutrinos. In contrast to the previous prediction, we have found strongly suppressed rates for the $\tau^-\to \mu^- \ell^+ \ell^-$ ($\ell=\mu, e$) decays. Our results are in good agreement with the approximation of neglecting masses and momenta of the external particles in the loop integrals made in the first computation for the $\mu^- \to e^-e^+ e^-$ decay.

• Segal's contractions, AdS and conformal groups

  Symmetries and their applications always played an important role in I.E. Segal's work. I shall exemplify this, starting with his correct proof (at the Lie group level) of what physicists call the "O'Raifeartaigh theorem", continuing with his incidental introduction in 1951 of the (1953) Inönü-Wigner contractions, of which the passage from AdS (SO(2,3)) to Poincaré is an important example, and with his interest in conformal groups in the latter part of last century. Since the 60s Flato and I had many fruitful interactions with him around these topics. In a last section I succintly relate these interests in symmetries with several of ours, especially elementary particles symmetries and deformation quantization, and with an ongoing program combining both.

• Clocking mechanism from a minimal spinning particle model

  The clock hypothesis plays an important role in the theory of relativity. To test this hypothesis, a mechanical model of an ideal clock is needed. Such a model should have the phase of its intrinsic periodic motion increasing linearly with the affine parameter of the clock's center of mass worldline. A class of relativistic rotators introduced by Staruszkiewicz in the context of an ideal clock is studied. A singularity in the inverse Legendre transform leading from the Hamiltonian to the Lagrangian leads to new possible Lagrangians characterized by fixed values of mass and spin. In free motion the rotators exhibit intrinsic motion with the speed of light and fixed frequency.

• Quantized Berry winding from an emergent $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry

  Linear crossings of energy bands occur in a wide variety of materials. In this paper we address the question of the quantization of the Berry winding characterizing the topology of these crossings in dimension $D=2$. Based on the historical example of $2$-bands crossing occuring in graphene, we propose to relate these Berry windings to the topological Chern number within a $D=3$ dimensional extension of these crossings. This dimensional embedding is obtained through a choice of a gap-opening potential. We show that the presence of an (emergent) $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry, local in momentum and antiunitary, allows the quantization of the Berry windings as multiples of $\pi$. We illustrate this quantization mechanism on a variety of three-band crossings.

• On Möbius gyrogroup and Möbius gyrovector space

  Gyrogroups are new algebraic structures that appeared in 1988 in the study of Einstein's velocity addition in the special relativity theory. These new algebraic structures were studied intensively by Abraham Ungar. The first gyrogroup that was considered into account is the unit ball of Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^3$ endowed with Einstein's velocity addition. The second geometric example of a gyrogroup is the complex unit disk $\mathbb{D}$={z ∈ $\mathbb{C}: |z|<1$}. To construct a gyrogroup structure on $\mathbb{D}$, we choose two elements $z_1, z_2 ∈ \mathbb{D}$ and define the Möbius addition by $z_1\oplus z_2 = \frac{z_1+z_2}{1+\bar{z_1}z_2}$. Then $(\mathbb{D},\oplus)$ is a gyrocommutative gyrogroup. If we define $r \odot x$ $=$ $\frac{(1+|x|)^r - (1-|x|)^r}{(1+|x|)^r + (1-|x|)^r}\frac{x}{|x|}$, where $x ∈ \mathbb{D}$ and $r ∈ \mathbb{R}$, then $(\mathbb{D},\oplus,\odot)$ will be a real gyrovector space. This paper aims to survey the main properties of these Möbius gyrogroup and Möbius gyrovector space.
