• Tau polarimetry in B meson decays

  This article summarizes recent developments in $B\to D^{(\ast)}\tau\nu$ decays. We explain how to extract the tau lepton's production properties from the kinematics of its decay products. The focus is on hadronic tau decays, which are most sensitive to the tau polarizations. We present new results for effects of new physics in tau polarization observables and quantify the observation prospects at BELLE II.

• Current status and prospects of muonium spectroscopy at PSI

  Recent and ongoing developments of low energy muon beamlines are heralding a new era of precision Muonium spectroscopy. While past spectroscopic measurements of Muonium were performed at pulsed muon facilities and were statistically limited, the advent of continuous low energy muon beams, such as at the LEM beamline at PSI, paired with the development of efficient muon-muonium converters and laser advancements, will overcome these limitations. Current experiments presently underway at the LEM facility and in the near future at the muCool beamline, which is under development at PSI, aim to improve the precision of both the 1S-2S transition determination and Lamb shift by several orders of magnitude. In this Chapter we give an overview of the current status and future prospects of these activities at PSI, highlighting how their projected significance fits into a broader context of other ongoing efforts worldwide.

• High-energy resummation in inclusive hadroproduction of Higgs plus jet

  Using the standard Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) approach, with partial inclusion of next-to-leading order effects, we propose the inclusive hadroproduction of a Higgs boson and of a jet, featuring large transverse momenta and well separated in rapidity, as a new channel to probe the BFKL dynamics. Predictions are presented for cross-sections and azimuthal angle correlations in different kinematics configurations for the final-state transverse momenta. We find that the large energy scales provided by the emission of a Higgs boson stabilize the BFKL series.

• HFLAV $τ$ branching fractions fit and measurements of Vus with $τ$ lepton data

  We report the status of the Heavy Flavour Averaging Group (HFLAV) averages of the $\tau$ lepton measurements We then update the latest published HFLAV global fit of the $\tau$ lepton branching fractions (Spring 2017) with recent results by BABAR. We use the fit results to update the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element Vus measurements with the $\tau$ branching fractions. We combine the direct $\tau$ branching fraction measurements with indirect predictions using kaon branching fractions measurements to improve the determination of Vus using $\tau$ branching fractions. The Vus determinations based on the inclusive branching fraction of $\tau$ to strange final states are about $3\sigma$ lower than the Vus determination from the CKM matrix unitarity.

• Why space could be quantised on a different scale to matter

  The scale of quantum mechanical effects in matter is set by Planck's constant, $\hbar$. This represents the quantisation scale for material objects. In this article, we present a simple argument why the quantisation scale for space, and hence for gravity, may not be equal to $\hbar$. Indeed, assuming a single quantisation scale for both matter and geometry leads to the `worst prediction in physics', namely, the huge difference between the observed and predicted vacuum energies. Conversely, assuming a different quantum of action for geometry, $\beta \ll \hbar$, allows us to recover the observed density of the Universe. Thus, by measuring its present-day expansion, we may in principle determine, empirically, the scale at which the geometric degrees of freedom should be quantised.

  We present recent phenomenological studies, tailored on kinematic configurations typical of current and forthcoming analyses at the LHC, for two novel probe channels of the BFKL resummation of energy logarithms. Particular attention is drawn to the behavior of distributions differential in azimuthal angle and rapidity, where significant high-energy effects are expected.

• Searching for muon to electron conversion: The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab

  The Mu2e experiment will measure the charged-lepton flavor violating (CLFV) neutrino-less conversion of a negative muon into an electron in the field of a nucleus. Mu2e will improve the previous measurement by four orders of magnitude, reaching a 90% C.L. limit of $8\times10^{-17}$ on the conversion rate. The experiment will reach mass scales of nearly $10^4$ TeV, far beyond the direct reach of colliders. The experiment is sensitive to a wide range of new physics, complementing and extending other CLFV searches. Mu2e is under design and construction at the Muon Campus of Fermilab; we expect to start taking physics data in 2022 with 3 years of running to achieve our target sensitivity.

• Predictions for neutron stars from holographic nuclear matter

  We discuss masses, radii, and tidal deformabilities of neutron stars constructed from the holographic Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model. Using the same model for crust and core of the star, we combine our theoretical results with the latest astrophysical data, thus deriving more stringent constraints than given by the data alone. For instance, our calculation predicts - independent of the model parameters - an upper limit for the maximal mass of the star of about 2.46 solar masses and a lower limit of the (dimensionless) tidal deformability of a 1.4-solar-mass star of about 277.

• Hybrid high-energy/collinear factorization in a heavy-light dijets system reaction

  We propose the inclusive hadroproduction of a heavy-light dijet system, as a new channel for the investigation of high energy QCD. We build up a hybrid factorization that incorporates a partial next-to-leading BFKL resummation inside the standard collinear description of observables. We present a detailed analysis of different observables: cross-section summed over azimuthal angles and differential in rapidity and azimuthal distribution. The stability that these distributions show under higher-order corrections motivates our interest in future studies, doable at new generation colliding machines.

  We review progress in the global QCD analysis by the CTEQ-TEA group since the publication of CT18 parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the proton. Specifically, we discuss comparisons of CT18 NNLO predictions with the LHC 13 TeV measurements as well as with the FNAL SeaQuest and BNL STAR data on lepton pair production. The specialized CT18X PDFs approximating saturation effects are compared with the CT18sx PDFs obtained using NLL/NLO small-x resummation. Short summaries are presented for the special CT18 parton distributions with fitted charm and with lattice QCD inputs. A recent comparative analysis of the impact of deuteron nuclear effects on the parton distributions by the CTEQ-JLab and CTEQ-TEA groups is summarized.
