  Here, we present the updated results on the cosmic ray energy spectrum and composition analysis from the GRAPES-3 experiment over the energy range of 50 TeV to 1000 TeV since ICRC 2021. The simulation of cosmic ray showers was performed using the post-LHC high energy hadronic interaction model QGSJetII-04 and low energy hadronic model FLUKA. A detailed GEANT4 simulation of the GRAPES-3 muon telescope was performed. The composition was obtained by fitting simulated muon multiplicity distributions for proton, helium, nitrogen, aluminium, and iron primaries to the observed data. The energy spectrum connects to the direct measurements with a fairly good agreement in flux.

• Reconstructing hadronically decaying tau leptons with a jet foundation model

  The limited availability and accuracy of simulated data has motivated the use of foundation models in high energy physics, with the idea to first train a task-agnostic model on large and potentially unlabeled datasets. This enables the subsequent fine-tuning of the learned representation for specific downstream tasks, potentially requiring much smaller datasets to achieve performance comparable to models trained from scratch on larger datasets. We study how OmniJet-$\alpha$, one of the proposed foundation models for particle jets, can be used on a new set of tasks, and on a new dataset, in order to reconstruct hadronically decaying $\tau$ leptons. We show that the pretraining can successfully be utilized for this multi-task problem, improving the resolution of momentum reconstruction by about $50\%$ when the pretrained weights are fine-tuned, compared to training the model from scratch. While much work remains ahead to develop generic foundation models for high-energy physics, this early result of generalizing an existing model to a new dataset and to previously unconsidered tasks highlights the importance of testing the approaches on a diverse set of datasets and tasks.

• Search for lepton-flavor-violating decays of the tau lepton at a future muon collider

  Tau leptons can have lepton-flavor-violating (LFV) couplings to a muon or an electron and an Axion-Like Particle (ALP). ALPs are pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons associated with spontaneously broken global U(1) symmetries. LFV ALPs have been of a great interest in the last several decades as they can address some of the SM long-lasting problems. Assuming a future muon collider proposed by the Muon Accelerator Program (MAP), we search for LFV decays $\tau\rightarrow\ell a$ ($\ell=e,\mu$) of one of the tau leptons produced in the muon-anti muon annihilation. The ALP mass is assumed to be in the range 100 eV to 1 MeV and three different chiral structures are considered for the LFV coupling. Using a multivariate technique and performing a parameterized simulation based on the ideal target performance, we obtain expected 95$\%$ confidence level upper limits on the LFV couplings tau-electron-ALP and tau-muon-ALP. Limits are computed assuming the center-of-mass energies of 126, 350 and 1500 GeV which the future muon collider is supposed to operate at. We study the two cases of unpolarized and polarized muon beams and show that taking advantage of tau polarization-induced effects, the main background $\tau\rightarrow e/\mu + \nu\bar{\nu}$ can be significantly reduced. Results indicate that current limits on the LFV couplings can be improved by roughly one order of magnitude using the present analysis.

• Measurements of W and Z boson production in ATLAS

  Precision measurements of the production cross-sections of W and Z boson at LHC provide important tests of perturbative QCD and information about the parton distribution functions for quarks within the proton. We present measurements of cross sections for inclusive $W^+$, $W^{-}$ and Z boson production using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$=2.76 TeV. Measurement of the transverse momentum distribution of Z boson at $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV is also presented. The measurements are corrected for detector effects and compared with state-of-the-art theoretical calculations.

• The two critical temperatures conundrum in La$_{1.83}$Sr$_{0.17}$CuO$_4$

  The in-plane and out-of-plane superconducting stiffness of ${\rm La}^{\vphantom{\dagger}}_{1.83}{\rm Sr}^{\vphantom{\dagger}}_{0.17}{\rm CuO}^{\vphantom{\dagger}}_4$ rings appear to vanish at different transition temperatures, which contradicts thermodynamical expectation. In addition, we observe a surprisingly strong dependence of the out-of-plane stiffness transition on sample width. With evidence from Monte Carlo simulations, this effect is explained by very small ratio $\alpha$ of inter-plane over intra-plane Josephson couplings. For three dimensional rings of millimeter dimensions, a crossover from layered three dimensional to quasi one dimensional behavior occurs at temperatures near the thermodynamic transition temperature ${T_{\rm c}}$, and the out-of-plane stiffness appears to vanish below ${T_{\rm c}}$ by a temperature shift of order $\alpha L_a/{\xi^{\parallel}}$, where $L_a/{\xi^{\parallel}}$ is the sample's width over coherence length. Including the effects of layer-correlated disorder, the measured temperature shifts can be fit by a value of $\alpha=4.1× 10^{-5}$, near ${T_{\rm c}}$, which is significantly lower than its previously measured value near zero temperature.

• Quantum adiabaticity in many-body systems and almost-orthogonality in complementary subspace

  We investigate why, in quantum many-body systems, the adiabatic fidelity and the overlap between the initial state and instantaneous ground states often yield nearly identical values. Our analysis suggests that this phenomenon results from an interplay between two intrinsic limits of many-body systems: the limit of small evolution parameters and the limit of large system sizes. In the former case, conventional perturbation theory provides a straightforward explanation. In the latter case, a key insight is that pairs of vectors in the Hilbert space orthogonal to the initial state tend to become nearly orthogonal as the system size increases. We illustrate these general findings with two representative models of driven many-body systems: the driven Rice-Mele model and the driven interacting Kitaev chain model.

• Analytical results for a coagulation/decoagulation model on an inhomogeneous lattice

  We show that an inhomogeneous coagulation/decoagulation model can be mapped to a quadratic fermionic model via a Jordan-Wigner transformation. The spectrum for this inhomogeneous model is computed exactly and the spectral gap is described for some examples. We construct our inhomogeneous model from two different homogeneous models joined by one special bond (impurity). The homogeneous models we started with are the coagulation/decoagulation models studied previously using the Jordan-Wigner transformation.

• Is Herbertsmithite far from an ideal antiferromagnet? Ab-initio answer including in-plane Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions and coupling with extra-plane impurities

  Herbertsmithite is known as the archetype of a $S=1/2$ nearest-neighbor Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the kagomé lattice, theoretically presumed to be a quantum gapless spin liquid. However, more and more experiments reveal that the model suffers from deviations from the ideal one, evidenced at very low temperatures. This detailed ab initio study focuses on two such deviations that have never been quantitatively calculated: the anisotropic exchange interactions and the Heisenberg exchange with extra-plane magnetic impurities. The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction is found to have an in-plane component almost three times larger than the out-of-plane component, but typically obviated in theoretical studies. Moreover, it is shown that the extra-plane magnetic impurities have a strong ferromagnetic interaction (approximatively one third of the main exchange $J_1$) with the kagomé magnetic sites. Combined with an estimated occurrence of these magnetic impurities of $\sim15\%$, the present results indicate that two-dimensional magnetic models only describe part of the physics.

• Dynamical spin-orbit-based spin transistor

  Spin-orbit interaction (SOI) has been a key tool to steer and manipulate spin-dependent transport properties in two-dimensional electron gases. Here we demonstrate how spin currents can be created and efficiently read out in nano- or mesoscale conductors with time-dependent and spatially inhomogeneous Rashba SOI. Invoking an underlying non-Abelian SU(2) gauge structure we show how time-periodic spin-orbit fields give rise to spin electric forces and enable the generation of pure spin currents of the order of several hundred nano-Amperes. In a complementary way, by combining gauge transformations with "hidden" Onsager relations, we exploit spatially inhomogeneous Rashba SOI to convert spin currents (back) into charge currents. In combining both concepts, we devise a spin transistor that integrates efficient spin current generation, by employing dynamical SOI, with its experimentally feasible detection via conversion into charge signals. We derive general expressions for the respective spin- and charge conductance, covering large parameter regimes of SOI strength and driving frequencies, far beyond usual adiabatic approaches such as the frozen scattering matrix approximation. We check our analytical expressions and approximations with full numerical spin-dependent transport simulations and demonstrate that the predictions hold true in a wide range from low to high driving frequencies.

• Probing hadronic interactions with measurements from the Pierre Auger Observatory

  The Pierre Auger Observatory is the largest facility in the world to study ultra-high-energy cosmic rays. It has a hybrid detection technique that combines the observation of the longitudinal development of extensive air showers and the measurement of their particles at the ground. This capability has opened the possibility to probe hadronic interactions taking place at energies well beyond those accessible by human-made accelerators. In this report, we present a selection of the latest results on hadronic interactions with measurements from the Pierre Auger Observatory. These data span over three decades in energy, showing the tension between data from the muon component of air showers and predictions based on the most updated hadronic interaction models.
