  We discuss a practical approach to compute master integrals entering physical quantities which depend on one parameter. As an example we consider four-loop QCD corrections to the relation between a heavy quark mass defined in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ and on-shell scheme in the presence of a second heavy quark.

• Phenomenological extraction of a universal TMD fragmentation function from single hadron production in $e^+ e^-$ annihilations

  Factorizing the cross section for single hadron production in $e^+e^-$ annihilations, differential in $z_h$, $P_T$ and thrust, is a highly non trivial task. We have devised a factorization scheme that allows us to recast the $e^+e^- \to hX$ cross section in the convolution of a calculable hard coefficient and a universal Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) Fragmentation Function (FF). The predictions obtained from our NLO-LL perturbative computation, together with a simple ansatz to model the non-perturbative part of the TMD, are applied to the experimental measurements of the BELLE Collaboration for the phenomenological extraction of this process independent TMD FF.

• Theory of Andreev blockade in a double quantum dot with a superconducting lead

  A normal metal source reservoir can load two electrons onto a double quantum dot in the spin-triplet configuration. We show that if the drain lead of the dot is a spin-singlet superconductor, these electrons cannot form a Cooper pair and are blockaded on the double dot. We call this phenomenon Andreev blockade because it arises due to suppressed Andreev reflections. We identify transport characteristics unique to Andreev blockade. Most significantly, it occurs for any occupation of the dot adjacent to the superconductor, in contrast with the well-studied Pauli blockade which requires odd occupations. Andreev blockade is lifted if quasiparticles are allowed to enter the superconducting lead, but it should be observable in the hard gap superconductor-semiconductor devices. A recent experiment tests this model and finds support for several predictions made here [P. Zhang, H. Wu, J. Chen, S. A. Khan, P. Krogstrup, D. Pekker, and S. M. Frolov, arXiv:2102.03283 (2021)]. Andreev blockade should be considered in the design of topological quantum circuits, hybrid quantum bits and quantum emulators.

• All Jordanian deformations of the $AdS_5 \times S^5$ superstring

  We explicitly construct and classify all Jordanian solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation on $\mathfrak{psu}(2,2|4)$, corresponding to Jordanian Yang-Baxter deformations of the $AdS_5\times S^5$ superstring. Such deformations preserve the classical integrability of the underlying sigma-model and thus are a subclass of all possible integrable deformations. The deformations that we consider are divided into two families, unimodular and non-unimodular ones. The former ensure that the deformed backgrounds are still solutions of the type IIB supergravity equations. For the simplest unimodular solutions, we find that the corresponding backgrounds preserve a number $N<32$ of supercharges that can be $N=12,8,6,4,0$.

• Elliptic deformation of $\mathcal{W}_N$-algebras

  We construct $q$-deformations of quantum $\mathcal{W}_N$ algebras with elliptic structure functions. Their spin $k+1$ generators are built from $2k$ products of the Lax matrix generators of ${\mathcal{A}_{q,p}(\widehat{gl}(N)_c)}$). The closure of the algebras is insured by a critical surface condition relating the parameters $p,q$ and the central charge $c$. Further abelianity conditions are determined, either as $c=-N$ or as a second condition on $p,q,c$. When abelianity is achieved, a Poisson bracket can be defined, that we determine explicitly. One connects these structures with previously built classical $q$-deformed $\mathcal{W}_N$ algebras and quantum $\mathcal{W}_{q,p}(\mathfrak{sl}_N)$.

• From classical to quantum regime of topological surface states via defect engineering

  Since the notion of topological insulator (TI) was envisioned in late 2000s, topology has become a new paradigm in condensed matter physics. Realization of topology as a generic property of materials has led to numerous predictions of topological effects. Although most of the classical topological effects, directly resulting from the presence of the spin-momentum-locked topological surface states (TSS), were experimentally confirmed soon after the theoretical prediction of TIs, many topological quantum effects remained elusive for a long while. It turns out that native defects, particularly interfacial defects, have been the main culprit behind this impasse. Even after quantum regime is achieved for the bulk states, TSS still tends to remain in the classical regime due to high density of interfacial defects, which frequently donate mobile carriers due to the very nature of the topologically-protected surface states. However, with several defect engineering schemes that suppress these effects, a series of topological quantum effects have emerged including quantum anomalous Hall effect, quantum Hall effect, quantized Faraday/Kerr rotations, topological quantum phase transitions, axion insulating state, zeroth-Landau level state, etc. Here, we review how these defect engineering schemes have allowed topological surface states to pull out of the murky classical regime and reveal their elusive quantum signatures, over the past decade.

• SmoQyDQMC.jl: A flexible implementation of determinant quantum Monte Carlo for Hubbard and electron-phonon interactions

  We introduce the SmoQyDQMC.jl package, a Julia implementation of the determinant quantum Monte Carlo algorithm. SmoQyDQMC.jl supports generalized tight-binding Hamiltonians with on-site Hubbard and generalized electron-phonon ($e$-ph) interactions, including non-linear $e$-ph coupling and anharmonic lattice potentials. Our implementation uses hybrid Monte Carlo methods with exact forces for sampling the phonon fields, enabling efficient simulation of low-energy phonon branches, including acoustic phonons. The SmoQyDQMC.jl package also uses a flexible scripting interface, allowing users to adapt it to different workflows and interface with other software packages in the Julia ecosystem. The code for this package can be downloaded from our GitHub repository at https://github.com/SmoQySuite/SmoQyDQMC.jl or installed using the Julia package manager.   We introduce a Julia implementation of the recently proposed Nevanlinna analytic continuation method. The method is based on Nevanlinna interpolants and inherently preserves the causality of a response function due to its construction. For theoretical calculations without statistical noise, this continuation method is a powerful tool to extract real-frequency information from numerical input data on the Matsubara axis. This method has been applied to first-principles calculations of correlated materials. This paper presents its efficient and full-featured open-source implementation of the method including the Hamburger moment problem and smoothing.

• Cyclotron trap

  The cyclotron trap was developed at SIN/PSI to increase the stopping density of nega- tively charged particle beams for the formation of exotic atoms in low pressure gases. A weak focusing magnetic field, produced by superconducting solenoids, is used. Particles are injected radially through the fringe field to a moderator, which decelerates them into orbits bound by the field. Further deceleration by moderators and/or low-pressure gases leads the particles to the center of the device, where they can be stopped or eventually extracted. Experiments became feasible with this technique, such as those dealing with pionic hydrogen/deuteriumat SIN/PSI.Muonic hydrogen laser experiments also became possible with the extraction of muons from the cyclotron trap. The formation of antipro- tonic hydrogen in low pressure targets led to successful experiments at LEAR/CERN.

• Reading between the rational sections: Global structures of 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ KK theories

  We study how the global structure of rank-one 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric field theories is encoded into global aspects of the Seiberg-Witten elliptic fibration. Starting with the prototypical example of the $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ gauge theory, we distinguish between relative and absolute Seiberg-Witten curves. For instance, we discuss in detail the three distinct absolute curves for the $SU(2)$ and $SO(3)_±$ 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauge theories. We propose that the $1$-form symmetry of an absolute theory is isomorphic to a torsion subgroup of the Mordell-Weil group of sections of the absolute curve, while the full defect group of the theory is encoded in the torsion sections of a so-called relative curve. We explicitly show that the relative and absolute curves are related by isogenies (that is, homomorphisms of elliptic curves) generated by torsion sections - hence, gauging a one-form symmetry corresponds to composing isogenies between Seiberg-Witten curves. We apply this approach to Kaluza-Klein (KK) 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories that arise from toroidal compactifications of 5d and 6d SCFTs to four dimensions, uncovering an intricate pattern of 4d global structures obtained by gauging discrete $0$-form and/or $1$-form symmetries. Incidentally, we propose a 6d BPS quiver for the 6d M-string theory on $\mathbb{R}^4× T^2$.
