• Possible studies of gluon transversity in the spin-1 deuteron at hadron-accelerator facilities

  Chiral-odd gluon transversity distribution could shed light on a new aspect of hadron physics. Although we had much progress recently on quark transversity distributions, there is no experimental measurement on the gluon transversity. The gluon trasversity does not exist in the spin-1/2 nucleons and it exists in the spin-1 deuteron. Therefore, it could probe new hadron physics in the deuteron beyond the basic bound system of a proton and a neutron because the nucleons cannot contribute directly. Here, we explain that the gluon transversity can be measured at hadron accelerator facilities, such as Fermilab and NICA, in addition to charged-lepton scattering measurements at lepton accelerator facilities by showing cross sections of the proton-deuteron Drell-Yan process as an example.

• Nucleon and pion PDFs: large-x asymptotics meets functional mimicry

  We review strategies to unveil the primordial large-$x$ structure of the nucleons as well as the pion from hard-scattering experiments. Ideas are presented for learning about the $x\to 1$ limit of nonperturbative QCD dynamics at energy scales of order 1 GeV from collider experiments at much higher scales. The behavior of parton distributions at $x\to 1$ predicted by the quark counting rules and other low-energy theoretical approaches is contrasted with phenomenological PDFs. Polynomial mimicry of PDF parametrizations is one of many factors that influence the apparent power of the $(1-x)$ falloff. We discuss implications of the mimicry for the large-$x$ falloff of the pion PDFs.

• Measuring three-flavor neutrinos with FASER$\nu$ at the LHC

  FASER$\nu$ at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is designed to directly detect neutrinos from a collider for the first time and study their cross sections at TeV energies. To date, no such measurements have been made. In 2018, a pilot detector was installed and collected proton-proton collision data of 12.2 fb$^{-1}$ at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. We observed the first neutrino interaction candidates at the LHC, opening a new avenue for studying neutrinos from current and future high-energy colliders. During Run 3 of the LHC from 2022, we will deploy a neutrino detector with a target mass of 1.1 tons. We expect to collect $\sim$2,000 $\nu_e$, 6,000 $\nu_{\mu}$, and 40 $\nu_{\tau}$ interactions in the detector.

• Rainbow chains and numerical renormalisation group for accurate chiral conformal spectra

  Based on the relationship between reduced and thermal density matrices in conformal field theory (CFT), we show that the entanglement spectrum of a conformal critical chain with exponentially decaying terms consists of conformal towers of the associated chiral CFT, with only weak finite-size effects. Through free-fermion and interacting examples, we show that these entanglement spectra present a reliable method to extract detailed CFT spectra from single wave functions without access to the parent Hamiltonian. We complement our method with a Wilsonian numerical renormalisation group algorithm for solving interacting, exponentially decaying chain Hamiltonians.

• Cosmic censorship of trans-Planckian field ranges in gravitational collapse

  A classical solution where the (scalar) field value moves by an ${\cal O}(1)$ range in Planck units is believed to signal the breakdown of Effective Field Theory (EFT). One heuristic argument for this is that such a field will have enough energy to be inside its own Schwarzschild radius, and will result in collapse. In this paper, we consider an inverse problem: what kind of field ranges arise during the gravitational collapse of a classical field? Despite the fact that collapse has been studied for almost a hundred years, most of the discussion is phrased in terms of fluid stress tensors, and not fields. An exception is the scalar collapse made famous by Choptuik. We re-consider Choptuik-like systems, but with the emphasis now on the evolution of the scalar. We give strong evidence that generic spherically symmetric collapse of a massless scalar field leads to super-Planckian field movement. But we also note that in every such supercritical collapse scenario, the large field range is hidden behind an apparent horizon. We also discuss how the familiar perfect fluid models for collapse like Oppenheimer-Snyder and Vaidya should be viewed in light of our results.

• Centrality dependence of multistrange baryon production in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

  We consider the experimental data on the production of strange $\Lambda^{\prime}$s, and multistrange baryons ($\Xi$, $\Omega$), and antibaryons, on nuclear targets, at the energy region from SPS up to LHC, in the framework of the Quark-Gluon String Model. One remarkable result of this analysis is the significant dependence on the centrality of the collision of the experimental $\overline{\Xi}^+/\overline{\Lambda}$ and $\overline{\Omega}^+/\overline{\Lambda}$ ratios in heavy-ion collisions, at SPS energies.

• Les Houches lectures on flow networks in biology

  Flows are essential to transport resources over large distances. As soon as diffusion becomes time-limiting, flows are needed. Flows are key for the function of multiple human organs, from the blood vasculature to the lungs, the digestive tract, the lymphatic system, and many more. While physics governs the flow dynamics, biology's response to flows governs the flow network architecture. We start with the fluid physics of Stokes flow, the prerequisite to describe the flows in biological flow networks. Then we explore how the network adaptation dynamics of biological flow networks reorganize network architecture to minimize flow dissipation or homogenize transport, storing memories of past flows along the way.

• Spin of fractional quantum Hall neutral modes and “missing states” on a sphere

  A low-energy neutral quasiparticle in a fractional quantum Hall system appears in the latter's energy spectrum on a sphere as a series of many-body excited states labeled by the angular momentum $L$ and whose energy is a smooth function of $L$ in the limit of large sphere radius. We argue that the signature of a nonvanishing spin (intrinsic angular momentum) $s$ of the quasiparticle is the absence, in this series, of states with total angular momentum less than $s$. We reinterpret the missing of certain states, observed in an exact-diagonalization calculation of the spectrum of the $\nu=7/3$ FQH state in a wide quantum well as well as in many proposed wave functions for the excited states as a consequence of the spin-2 nature of the zero-momentum magnetoroton.

• Non-zero transverse single spin asymmetry of very forward $\pi^0$ in polarized $p + p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 510$ GeV

  The RHICf experiment measured transverse single spin asymmetry of very forward ($\eta > 6$) $\pi^0$ from polarized $p + p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 510$ GeV. In order to measure it precisely, we installed a new electromagnetic calorimeter at zero-degree area of the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and measured the $\pi^0$s over the kinematic range of $x_F > 0.25$ and $0 < p_T < 1$ GeV/$c$ in June, 2017. A clear non-zero asymmetry was observed even in low $p_T < 1$ GeV$c$ showing a similar $x_F$ dependence with the forward ($2 < \eta < 4$) $\pi^0$ ones. A possible diffractive contribution may need to be taken into account to explain the very forward $\pi^0$ asymmetry. RHICf-STAR combined analysis and follow-up experiment will give a clue to understand it qualitatively.

• $\beta$-function of the level-zero Gross-Neveu model

  We explain that the supersymmetric $\mathbb{CP}^{n-1}$ sigma model is directly related to the level-zero chiral Gross-Neveu (cGN) model. In particular, beta functions of the two theories should coincide. This is consistent with the one-loop-exactness of the $\mathbb{CP}^{n-1}$ beta function and a conjectured all-loop beta function of cGN models. We perform an explicit four-loop calculation on the cGN side and discuss the renormalization scheme dependence that arises.
