Impact of W and Z Production Data and Compatibility of Neutrino DIS Data in Nuclear Parton Distribution Functions

Vector boson production and neutrino deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) data are crucial for constraining the strange quark parton distribution function (PDF) and more generally for flavor decomposition in PDF extractions. We extend the nCTEQ15 nuclear PDFs (nPDFs) by adding the recent $W$ and $Z$ production data from the LHC in a global nPDF fit. The new nPDF set, referred to as nCTEQ15WZ, is used as a starting point for a follow-up study in which we assess the compatibility of neutrino DIS data with charged lepton DIS data. Specifically, we re-analyze neutrino DIS data from NuTeV, Chorus, and CDHSW, as well as dimuon data from CCFR and NuTeV. To scrutinize the level of compatibility, different kinematic regions of the neutrino data are investigated. Fits to the neutrino data alone and a preliminary global fit are performed and compared to nCTEQ15WZ.
The double EFT expansion in quantum gravity

In this work, we aim to characterize the structure of higher-derivative corrections within low-energy Effective Field Theories (EFTs) arising from a UV-complete theory of quantum gravity. To this end, we use string theory as a laboratory and argue that such EFTs should exhibit a double EFT expansion involving higher-curvature operators. The field-theoretic expansion is governed by the mass of the lightest (tower of) new degrees of freedom, as expected from standard field theory considerations. Conversely, the quantum-gravitational expansion is suppressed relative to the Einstein-Hilbert term by the quantum gravity cutoff, $\Lambda_{\text{QG}}$, above which no local gravitational EFT description remains valid. This structure becomes manifest in the so-called asymptotic regime, where a hierarchy between the Planck scale and $\Lambda_{\text{QG}}$ emerges, the latter identified herein as the species scale. Most notably, we demonstrate the features of the double EFT expansion through an amplitudes-based approach in (toroidal compactifications of) ten-dimensional Type IIA string theory, and via a detailed analysis of the supersymmetric black hole entropy in 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravities derived from Type II Calabi–Yau compactifications. We provide further evidence for our proposal across various string theory setups, including Calabi–Yau compactifications of M/F-theory and Type II string theory. Finally, we explore the implications of this framework for the Wilson coefficients of the aforementioned higher-curvature operators, revealing potentially significant constraints in the asymptotic regime and highlighting a remarkable interplay with recent results from the S-matrix bootstrap program.
Strong coupling at the $\tau$-mass scale from an improved vector isovector spectral function

We perform a precise extraction of the QCD coupling at the $\tau$-mass scale, $\alpha_s(m_\tau)$, from a new vector isovector spectral function which combines ALEPH and OPAL distributions for the dominant channels, $\tau\to\pi \pi^0\nu_\tau$, $\tau\to 3\pi \pi^0\nu_\tau$ and $\tau\to \pi 3\pi^0\nu_\tau$, with estimates of sub-leading contributions obtained from electroproduction cross-sections using CVC, as well as BaBar results for $\tau \to K^-K^0\nu_\tau$. The fully inclusive spectral function thus obtained is entirely based on experimental data, without Monte Carlo input. From this new data set, we obtain $\alpha_s(m_\tau)=0.3077±0.0075$, which corresponds to $\alpha_s(m_Z)=0.1171±0.0010$. This analysis can be improved on the experimental side with new measurements of the dominant $\pi\pi^0$, $\pi 3\pi^0$, and $3\pi \pi^0$ $\tau$ decay modes.
Monte Carlo Event Generator updates, for tau pair events at Belle II energies

The Monte Carlo for lepton pair production and $\tau$ decays consist of KKMC for lepton pair production, tauola for $\tau$ lepton decays and photos for radiative corrections in decays. An effort for adaptation of the system for precision data to be collected at Belle II experiment lead to extension of phase space generation modules both in photos and tauola to enable decays and/or radiative corrections of additional light lepton pairs. The phase-space and matrix element parts of the programs are separated, that is why extension to processes where lepton pair is produced through narrow resonances, like dark photon, was straight forward. In the present version of tauola, the list of $\tau$ decay channels is enriched with multitude of exotic ones, useful for searches of new physics. The hadronic currents parametrization of main decay channels is prepared for basic simulation in the experiment. The basis for future work on precise fits of hadronic currents including Machine Learning is retained, but development of necessary software solutions is left for the forthcoming years. Presented programs versions are available in stand-alone format from GitLab or through the basf2 system of Belle II software. Official distribution web pages, documenting programs tests, are retained but not necessarily up to date.
Hard color-singlet exchange in dijet events in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV

We present a measurement of events with two jets separated by a pseudorapidity gap (jet-gap-jet). The signature is expected from hard color-singlet exchange. The jets are reconstructed with the CMS detector. The highest $p_\text{T}$ jets have $p_\text{T}^\text{jet1,2} > 40$ GeV, with $1.4 < |\eta^\text{jet1,2}| < 4.7$ and $\eta^\text{jet1} \eta^\text{jet2} < 0$. We measure the fraction of color-singlet exchange dijet events, $f_\text{CSE}$, and compare it to previous measurements and to predictions. We also study jet-gap-jet events where the colliding protons remain intact and are detected with the Roman pots of TOTEM. A larger fraction $f_\text{CSE}$ is found in the latter subsample.

Updated determinations of |V$_{us}$| with tau decays using new recent estimates of radiative corrections for light-meson leptonic decay rates

We update the |V$_{us}$| determinations using the HFLAV 2018 report tau branching fraction results with recent new estimates of the $\pi\ell2$ and $K\ell2$ radiative corrections. There are minor changes of the central values and uncertainties.
Three-loop soft anomalous dimensions for top-quark processes

I present results for soft anomalous dimensions through three loops for several processes involving the production of top quarks. In particular, I discuss single-top and top-pair production. I also present some numerical results for double-differential distributions in $t{\bar t}$ production through approximate N$^3$LO.
Photon-photon fusion and tau g-2 measurement in ATLAS

Relativistic heavy-ion beams at the LHC are accompanied by a large flux of equivalent photons. New measurements of exclusive dilepton production (electron, muon, and tau pairs) performed by the ATLAS experiment are discussed. We present the photon-induced production of tau pairs and constraints on the tau lepton's anomalous magnetic dipole moment. In addition, measurements of photon-induced electron and muon pair production are presented, which provide strong constraints on the nuclear photon flux and its dependence on the impact parameter and photon energy. Forward neutrons are utilised to provide an experimental handle on the impact parameter range sampled in the events.
