• Exact one-particle density matrix for SU(N) fermionic matter-waves in the strong repulsive limit

  We consider a gas of repulsive $N$-component fermions confined in a ring-shaped potential, subjected to an effective magnetic field. For large repulsion strengths, we work out a Bethe ansatz scheme to compute the two-point correlation matrix and then the one-particle density matrix. Our results hold in the mesoscopic regime of finite but sufficiently large number of particles and system size that are not accessible by numerics. We access the momentum distribution of the system and analyse its specific dependence of interaction, magnetic field and number of components $N$. In the context of cold atoms, the exact computation of the correlation matrix to determine the interference patterns that are produced by releasing cold atoms from ring traps is carried out.

• Measurement-induced entanglement phase transitions in variational quantum circuits

  Variational quantum algorithms (VQAs), which classically optimize a parametrized quantum circuit to solve a computational task, promise to advance our understanding of quantum many-body systems and improve machine learning algorithms using near-term quantum computers. Prominent challenges associated with this family of quantum-classical hybrid algorithms are the control of quantum entanglement and quantum gradients linked to their classical optimization. Known as the barren plateau phenomenon, these quantum gradients may rapidly vanish in the presence of volume-law entanglement growth, which poses a serious obstacle to the practical utility of VQAs. Inspired by recent studies of measurement-induced entanglement transition in random circuits, we investigate the entanglement transition in variational quantum circuits endowed with intermediate projective measurements. Considering the Hamiltonian Variational Ansatz (HVA) for the XXZ model and the Hardware Efficient Ansatz (HEA), we observe a measurement-induced entanglement transition from volume-law to area-law with increasing measurement rate. Moreover, we provide evidence that the transition belongs to the same universality class of random unitary circuits. Importantly, the transition coincides with a “landscape transition” from severe to mild/no barren plateaus in the classical optimization. Our work may provide an avenue for improving the trainability of quantum circuits by incorporating intermediate measurement protocols in currently available quantum hardware.

• Superradiant instability and black resonators in AdS

  Rapidly rotating Myers-Perry-AdS black holes are unstable against rotational superradiance. From the onset of the instability, cohomogeneity-1 black resonators are constructed in five-dimensional asymptotically AdS space. By using the cohomogeneity-1 metric, perturbations of the cohomogeneity-1 black resonators are also studied.

• MEG final results and progress towards MEG II

  The MEG experiment, which is to search for lepton flavor violating muon decay, had been successfully finished in 2013. The final sensitivity of the experiment was 5.3 × 10−13, and since the experiment did not find any signal, the upper limit of the branching ratio of the μ+ → e+γ was set to be 4.2 × 10−13 at 90% CL. The MEG II experiment will improve the sensitivity by an order of magnitude with three years data taking, and the target sensitivity is 6×10−14. In 2018 after the detector integration, the muon beam data taking will be planned with limited number of readout channels. In 2019, the engineering run and the physics run will be started.

• Photoinduced pairing in Mott insulators

  Utilizing time-evolution techniques in (infinite) matrix-product-state representation, we study the non-equilibrium dynamics of driven Mott insulators and demonstrate photoinduced $\eta$ pairing directly in the thermodynamic limit. Analyzing the time evolution of the corresponding pairing correlations, we determine the optimal laser pump parameters for which long-range $\eta$-pairing becomes dominant after pulse irradiation. The time-dependent photoemission spectra for this optimal pump parameter set show clear signatures of the photoinduced insulator-to-metal phase transition related to the formation of $\eta$ pairs.

• GRAND: A Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection

  GRAND will be a distributed set of about 20 arrays of radio antennas, totalling 200,000 km2. We aim to study the ultra high energy universe through the detection of neutrinos, photons and cosmic rays at energies at the EeV scale. In addition GRAND will be used to study astronomical objects like FRBs and GRBs. We will describe the physics motivation, the detection strategy, the first stages of GRAND and the path to creating the complete setup.

• Measurements of sub-jet fragmentation with ALICE

  High-energy jets offer rich opportunities to study quantum chromodynamics, from investigating the limits of perturbative calculability to constraining the emergent properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). In these proceedings, we present new measurements of the fragmentation properties of jets. We report distributions of the sub-jet momentum fraction $z_r$ measured in pp and Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider. These measurements serve as input to test the universality of jet fragmentation in the QGP, and offer a path to elucidate jet quenching effects in the large-$z$ region.

• Jordan meets Freudenthal. A black hole exceptional story

  Within the extremal black hole attractors arising in ungauged $\mathcal{N}≥ 2$-extended Maxwell Einstein supergravity theories in $3+1$ space-time dimensions, we provide an overview of the stratification of the electric-magnetic charge representation space into "large" orbits and related "moduli spaces", under the action of the (continuous limit of the) non-compact $U$-duality Lie group. While each "large" orbit of the $U$-duality supports a class of attractors, the corresponding " moduli space" is the proper subspace of the scalar manifold spanned by those scalar fields on which the Attractor Mechanism is inactive. We present the case study concerning $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity theories with symmetric vector multiplets' scalar manifold, which in all cases (with the exception of the minimally coupled models) have the electric-magnetic charge representation of $U$-duality fitting into a reduced Freudenthal triple system over a cubic (simple or semi-simple) Jordan algebra.

• High-energy logarithmic corrections to the QCD component of same-sign W-pair production

  We describe the calculation of the QCD contribution to same-sign $W$-pair production, $pp\to e^\pm \nu_e \mu^\pm \nu_\mu jj$, resumming all contributions scaling as $\alpha_W^4 \alpha_s^{2+k}\log^k(\hat s/p_\perp^2)$ [arXiv:2107.06818]. These leading logarithmic contributions are enhanced by typical cuts used for Vector Boson Scattering (VBS) studies. We show that while the cross sections are little affected by these corrections, other more exclusive observables relevant for experimental studies are affected more significantly.

• Physics motivation and detector upgrades for the new era of the ATLAS experiment

  The ATLAS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be upgraded in two stages to prepare first for the Run 3 data-taking campaign, during which the integrated luminosity will roughly double, and then for the High-Luminosity LHC program with an ultimate integrated luminosity of up to 4 ab-1. These upgrades and high-statistics datasets will allow ATLAS to perform searches and precision measurements to constrain the Standard Model in yet-unexplored phase spaces and in the Higgs sector. This contribution summarizes the ATLAS detector upgrades and selected physics prospects for Run 3 and the HL-LHC.
