• Efficient adaptive Bayesian estimation of a slowly fluctuating Overhauser field gradient

  Slow fluctuations of Overhauser fields are an important source for decoherence in spin qubits hosted in III-V semiconductor quantum dots. Focusing on the effect of the field gradient on double-dot singlet-triplet qubits, we present two adaptive Bayesian schemes to estimate the magnitude of the gradient by a series of free induction decay experiments. We concentrate on reducing the computational overhead, with a real-time implementation of the schemes in mind. We show how it is possible to achieve a significant improvement of estimation accuracy compared to more traditional estimation methods. We include an analysis of the effects of dephasing and the drift of the gradient itself.

• Anomalous coupling studies with intact protons at the LHC

  We describe the reaches on quartic $\gamma \gamma \gamma \gamma$, $\gamma \gamma WW$, $\gamma \gamma ZZ$, $\gamma \gamma \gamma Z$, $\gamma \gamma t \bar{t}$ anomalous couplings at the LHC using intact protons in the final state measured in AFP in ATLAS or PPS in CMS-TOTEM.

• STEP: A tool to perform tests of smoothness on differential distributions based on expansion of polynomials

  We motivate and describe a method based on fits with polynomials to test the smoothness of differential distributions. As a demonstration, we apply the method to several measurements of inclusive jet double-differential cross section in the jet transverse momentum and rapidity at the Tevatron and LHC. This method opens new possibilities to test the quality of differential distributions used for the extraction of physics quantities such as the strong coupling.

• Top-quark mass determination in the optimised threshold scan

  One of the important goals at the future e$^+$e$^−$ colliders is to measure the top-quark mass and width in a scan of the pair production threshold. Presented in this work is the most general approach to the top-quark mass determination from the threshold scan at CLIC, with all relevant model parameters and selected systematic uncertainties included in the fit procedure. In the baseline scan scenario the top-quark mass can be extracted with precision of the order of 30 to 40 MeV, already for 100 fb$^{−1}$ of data collected at the threshold. We present the optimisation procedure based on the genetic algorithm with which the statistical uncertainty of the mass measurement can be reduced by about 20%.

• Chaos enhancement in large-spin chains

  We study the chaotic properties of a large-spin XXZ chain with onsite disorder and a small number of excitations above the fully polarized state. We show that while the classical limit, which is reached for large spins, is chaotic, enlarging the spin suppresses quantum chaos features. We examine ways to facilitate chaos by introducing additional terms to the Hamiltonian. Interestingly, perturbations that are diagonal in the basis of product states in the $z$-direction do not lead to significant enhancement of chaos, while off-diagonal perturbations restore chaoticity for large spins, so that only three excitations are required to achieve strong level repulsion and ergodic eigenstates.

  We calculate the full one-loop SUSY-QCD corrections to stop annihilation into gluons and light quarks including the Sommerfeld enhancement effect and discuss their impact on the neutralino relic density in the MSSM.

• Time evolution of effective central charge and signatures of RG irreversibility after a quantum quench

  At thermal equilibrium, the concept of effective central charge for massive deformations of two-dimensional conformal field theories (CFT) is well understood, and can be defined by comparing the partition function of the massive model to that of a CFT. This temperature-dependent effective charge interpolates monotonically between the central charge values corresponding to the IR and UV fixed points at low and high temperatures, respectively. We propose a non-equilibrium, time-dependent generalization of the effective central charge for integrable models after a quantum quench, $c_{\rm eff}(t)$, obtained by comparing the return amplitude to that of a CFT quench. We study this proposal for a large mass quench of a free boson, where the charge is seen to interpolate between $c_{\rm eff}=0$ at $t=0$, and $c_{\rm eff}\sim 1$ at $t\to\infty$, as is expected. We use our effective charge to define an "Ising to Tricritical Ising" quench protocol, where the charge evolves from $c_{\rm eff}=1/2$ at $t=0$, to $c_{\rm eff}=7/10$ at $t\to\infty$, the corresponding values of the first two unitary minimal CFT models. We then argue that the inverse "Tricritical Ising to Ising" quench is impossible with our methods. These conclusions can be generalized for quenches between any two adjacent unitary minimal CFT models. We finally study a large mass quench into the "staircase model" (sinh-Gordon with a particular complex coupling). At short times after the quench, the effective central charge increases in a discrete "staircase" structure, where the values of the charge at the steps can be computed in terms of the central charges of unitary minimal CFT models. When the initial state is a pure state, one always finds that $c_{\rm eff}(t\to\infty)\geq c_{\rm eff}(t=0)$, though $c_{\rm eff}(t)$, generally oscillates at finite times. We explore how this constraint may be related to RG flow irreversibility.

• Searches for dark matter with the ATLAS detector

  The presence of a non-baryonic Dark Matter (DM) component in the Universe is inferred from the observation of its gravitational interaction. If DM interacts weakly with Standard Model (SM) particles it could be produced at the LHC. The ATLAS experiment has developed a broad search program for DM candidates in final states with large missing transverse momentum produced in association with other SM particles (light and heavy quarks, photons, Z and H bosons, as well as additional heavy scalar particles). The results of recent searches on 13 TeV pp data, their interplay and interpretation are presented.

• Linear stability of Einstein and de Sitter universes in the quadratic theory of modified gravity

  We consider the Einstein static and the de Sitter universe solutions and examine their instabilities in a subclass of quadratic modified theories for gravity. This modification proposed by Nash is an attempt to generalize general relativity. Interestingly, we discover that the Einstein static universe is unstable in the context of the modified gravity. In contrast to Einstein static universe, the de Sitter universe remains stable under metric perturbation up to the second order.

• Transversity through Dihadron: a constrained fit

  We present a study of the valence transversity PDF obtained through a constrained fit. The effects of the constraints on the uncertainties of the PDF are explored. We show that the resulting isovector tensor charge is largely undetermined and, hence, compatible with all lattice evaluations.
