• Stochastic series expansion quantum Monte Carlo for Rydberg arrays

  Arrays of Rydberg atoms are a powerful platform to realize strongly-interacting quantum many-body systems. A common Rydberg Hamiltonian is free of the sign problem, meaning that its equilibrium properties are amenable to efficient simulation by quantum Monte Carlo (QMC). In this paper, we develop a Stochastic Series Expansion QMC algorithm for Rydberg atoms interacting on arbitrary lattices. We describe a cluster update that allows for the efficient sampling and calculation of physical observables for typical experimental parameters, and show that the algorithm can reproduce experimental results on large Rydberg arrays in one and two dimensions.

• Quantum oscillations in an impurity-band Anderson insulator

  We show that for a system of localized electrons in an impurity band, which form an Anderson insulating state at zero temperature, there can appear quantum oscillations of the magnetization, i.e. the Anderson insulator can exhibit the de Haas-van Alphen effect. This is possible when the electronic band from which the localized states are formed has an extremum that traces out a nonzero area in reciprocal space. Our work extends existing theories for clean band insulators of this form to the situation where they host an impurity band. We show that the energies of these impurity levels oscillate with magnetic field, and compute the conditions under which these oscillations can dominate the de Haas-van Alphen effect. We discuss our results in connection with experimental measurements of quantum oscillations in Kondo insulators, and propose other experimental systems where the impurity band contribution can be dominant.

• The strong coupling from $e^+e^-\to$~hadrons

  We use a new compilation of the hadronic $R$-ratio from available data for the process $e^+e^-\to$ hadrons below the charm mass to determine the strong coupling $\alpha_s$, using finite-energy sum rules. Quoting our results at the $\tau$ mass to facilitate comparison to the results obtained from similar analyses of hadronic $\tau$-decay data, we find $\alpha_s(m_\tau^2)=0.298\pm 0.016\pm 0.006$ in fixed-order perturbation theory, and $\alpha_s(m_\tau^2)=0.304\pm 0.018\pm 0.006$ in contour-improved perturbation theory, where the first error is statistical, and the second error combines various systematic effects. These values are in good agreement with a recent determination from the OPAL and ALEPH data for hadronic $\tau$ decays. We briefly compare the $R(s)$-based analysis with the $\tau$-based analysis.

• Physical and unphysical regimes of self-consistent many-body perturbation theory

  In the standard framework of self-consistent many-body perturbation theory, the skeleton series for the self-energy is truncated at a finite order N and plugged into the Dyson equation, which is then solved for the propagator $G_N$. We consider two examples of fermionic models, the Hubbard atom at half filling and its zero space-time dimensional simplified version. First, we show that $G_N$ converges when $N\to∞$ to a limit $G_∞\,$, which coincides with the exact physical propagator $G_{exact}$ at small enough coupling, while $G_∞ ≠ G_{exact}$ at strong coupling. This follows from the findings of [Phys. Rev. Lett. 114, 156402 (2015)] and an additional subtle mathematical mechanism elucidated here. Second, we demonstrate that it is possible to discriminate between the $G_∞=G_{exact}$ and $G_∞≠G_{exact}$ regimes thanks to a criterion which does not require the knowledge of $G_{exact}$, as proposed in [Phys. Rev. B 93, 161102 (2016)].

• The importance of multiple scatterings in medium-induced gluon radiation

  In this work we disentangle the underlying physical picture of the in-medium gluon radiation process across its different energy regimes by comparing the recently obtained fully-resummed -- without any further approximations -- BDMPS-Z in-medium emission spectrum with the extensively used analytical approaches. We observe that in the high-energy regime the radiation process is dominated by a single hard scattering, while in the intermediate-energy region coherence effects among multiple scatterings are crucial. Finally, we prove that in the low-energy regime the dynamics is again controlled by a single scattering but where one must include a suppression factor accounting for the probability of not having any further scatterings.

• Quantum parameter estimation with many-body fermionic systems and application to the Hall effect

  We calculate the quantum Fisher information for a generic many-body fermionic system in a pure state depending on a parameter. We discuss the situations where the parameter is imprinted in the basis states, in the state coefficients, or both. In the case where the parameter dependence of coefficients results from a Hamiltonian evolution, we derive a particularly simple expression for the quantum Fisher information. We apply our findings to the quantum Hall effect, and evaluate the quantum Fisher information associated with the optimal measurement of the magnetic field for a system in the ground state of the effective Hamiltonian. The occupation of electron states with high momentum enforced by the Pauli principle leads to a "super-Heisenberg" scaling of the sensitivity with a power law that depends on the geometry of the sensor.

• Determination of $α_{S}$ beyond $NNLO$ using the event shape averages

  In this proceedings we discuss a prescription to extract the QCD strong coupling constant at $N^{3}LO$ precision in perturbative QCD using a combination of ${\cal{O}}(\alpha_{S}^{3})$ calculations in pQCD and estimations of the ${\cal{O}}(\alpha_{S}^{4})$ corrections from the data. The method is applied to a set of event shape averages measured in experiments at the LEP, PETRA, PEP and TRISTAN colliders. In our analysis we account for hadronization effects with models from modern Monte Carlo event generators and analytic hadronization models. We conclude that the precision of the $\alpha_{S}$ extraction cannot be improved significantly only with pQCD predictions of higher orders, and further progress in these studies requires a significant advances in the studies and modeling of hadronization process.

• Radiative asymptotic symmetries of 3D Einstein-Maxwell theory

  We study the null asymptotic structure of Einstein-Maxwell theory in three-dimensional (3D) spacetimes. Although devoid of bulk gravitational degrees of freedom, the system admits a massless photon and can therefore accommodate electromagnetic radiation. We derive fall-off conditions for the Maxwell field that contain both Coulombic and radiative modes with non-vanishing news. The latter produces non-integrability and fluxes in the asymptotic surface charges, and gives rise to a non-trivial 3D Bondi mass loss formula. The resulting solution space is thus analogous to a dimensional reduction of 4D pure gravity, with the role of gravitational radiation played by its electromagnetic cousin. We use this simplified setup to investigate choices of charge brackets in detail, and compute in particular the recently introduced Koszul bracket. When the latter is applied to Wald-Zoupas charges, which are conserved in the absence of news, it leads to the field-dependent central extension found earlier in [Class. Quantum Gravity 32, 245001 (2015)]. We also consider (Anti-)de Sitter asymptotics to further exhibit the analogy between this model and 4D gravity with leaky boundary conditions.

• Electron addition spectral functions of low-density polaron liquids

  Spectral functions are important quantities that contain a wealth of information about the quasiparticles of a system, and that can also be measured experimentally. For systems with electron-phonon coupling, good approximations for the spectral function are available only in the Migdal limit (at Fermi energies much larger than the typical phonon frequency, $E_F\gg \Omega$, requiring a large carrier concentration $x$) and in the single polaron limit (at $x=0$). Here we show that the region with $x\ll 1$ ($E_F <\Omega$) can also be reliably investigated with the Momentum Average (MA) variational approximation, which essentially describes the formation of a polaron above an inert Fermi sea. Specifically, we show that for the one-dimensional spinless Holstein model, the MA spectral functions compare favorably with those calculated using variationally exact density matrix renormalization group simulations (DMRG) evaluated directly in frequency-space, so long as $x<0.1$ and the adiabaticity ratio $\Omega/t>0.5$. Unlike in the Migdal limit, here 'polaronic physics' emerges already at moderate couplings. The relevance of these results for a spinful low-$x$ metal is also discussed.

• Light meson decays at BESIII

  The world’s largest sample of J/psi events accumulated at the BESIII detector offers a unique opportunity to investigate eta and eta' physics via two body J/psi radiative or hadronic decays. In recent years the BESIII experiment has made significant progresses in eta/eta' decays. A selection of recent highlights in light meson spectroscopy at BESIII are reviewed in this report, including the observation of eta'->pi+pi-mu+mu-, the study of eta'->pi+pi-e+e-, and search for CP-violation in this decay, search for the rare decays of eta'->4pi0 and eta'->gamma gamma eta, as well as the precision measurement of the branching fraction of eta' decays.
