Encoding off-shell effects in top pair production in direct diffusion networks

To meet the precision targets of upcoming LHC runs in the simulation of top pair production events it is essential to also consider off-shell effects. Due to their great computational cost I propose to encode them in neural networks. For that I use a combination of neural networks that take events with approximate off-shell effects and transform them into events that match those obtained with full off-shell calculations. This was shown to work reliably and efficiently at leading order. Here I discuss first steps extending this method to include higher order effects.
Group invariants for Feynman diagrams

It is well-known that the symmetry group of a Feynman diagram can give important information on possible strategies for its evaluation, and the mathematical objects that will be involved. Motivated by ongoing work on multi-loop multi-photon amplitudes in quantum electrodynamics, here I will discuss the usefulness of introducing a polynomial basis of invariants of the symmetry group of a diagram in Feynman-Schwinger parameter space.
Measurement of the $t$-channel single top-quark production cross section at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector and interpretations of the measurement

The $t$-channel is the dominant production channel for single top-quarks at the LHC. The total cross section of this process is measured by ATLAS in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. The production cross sections for single top-quarks and single top-antiquarks are measured to be $\sigma_{tq}=\text{137}^{+8}_{-8}\,$pb and $\sigma_{\bar{t}q}=\text{84}^{+6}_{-5}\,$pb. For the combined cross section and the ratio of the cross sections $R_t$, $\sigma_{tq+\bar{t}q}=\text{221}^{+13}_{-13}\,$pb and $R_t=\text{1.636}^{+0\text{.}036}_{-0\text{.}034}$ are obtained. As interpretations of the measurement, limits are set on the EFT operator $O_{Qq}^{3,1}$ and on the CKM matrix elements $|V_{td}|$, $|V_{ts}|$ and $|V_{tb}|$.
Towards a differential $\mathrm{t\bar{t}W}$ cross section measurement at CMS

Top quark pair production in association with a W boson is a rare standard model process that has proven to be an intriguing puzzle for theorists and experimentalists alike. Recent measurements, performed at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV, by both the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations at the CERN LHC, find cross section values that are consistently higher than the latest state-of-the-art theory predictions. In this presentation, both experimental and theoretical challenges in the pursuit of a better understanding of this process are discussed. Furthermore, a framework for a future differential measurement to be performed with the Run 2 CMS data (collected in 2016-2018) is proposed.
Measurements of inclusive and differential cross-sections of $t\bar{t}\gamma$ production in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector

Cross-section measurements of the associated production of a top quark pair and a photon ($t\bar{t}\gamma$) are performed with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb$^{-1}$ of proton−proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurement focuses on $t\bar{t}\gamma$ topologies where the photon is radiated from an initial-state parton or one of the top quarks. The differential cross-sections are measured for variables characterising the photon, lepton and jet kinematic properties. The distribution of the photon transverse momentum is used to constrain effective field theory operators related to the electroweak dipole moments of the top quark.
Probing ALPs at the LUXE experiment

The proposed LUXE experiment (LASER Und XFEL Experiment) at DESY, Hamburg, aims to probe QED in its non-perturbative regime. In order to do this, LUXE will study the interactions between 16.5 GeV electrons from the European XFEL and high-intensity laser pulses. This experiment also provides a unique opportunity to probe physics beyond the Standard Model: exploiting the large photon flux generated at LUXE, it is possible to design a dedicated detector to probe axion-like-particles up to a mass of 350 MeV and with photon coupling of $3 \cdot 10^{-6}$ GeV$^{-1}$. This reach is comparable to the projected sensitivity of experiments like FASER2 at the HL-LHC and NA62 operating in dump mode.
An algebraic approach to intertwined quantum phase transitions in the Zr isotopes

The algebraic framework of the interacting boson model with configuration mixing is employed to demonstrate the occurrence of intertwined quantum phase transitions (IQPTs) in the $_{40}$Zr isotopes with neutron number 52-70. The detailed quantum and classical analyses reveal a QPT of crossing normal and intruder configurations superimposed on a QPT of the intruder configuration from U(5) to SU(3) and a crossover from SU(3) to SO(6) dynamical symmetries.
T-violating effect in $\nu_\tau (\bar{\nu}_\tau)-$nucleon quasielastic scattering

The production cross sections and polarization observables of the $\tau$ leptons produced in the $|\Delta S| = 0$ and $1$ induced $\nu_{\tau}(\bar{\nu}_{\tau})-N$ quasielastic scattering have been studied. The effect of T violation, in the case of $\Delta S=0$ and 1 processes, and the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects, in the case of $\Delta S=1$ processes, on the total scattering cross sections as well polarization observables are explored. Experimentally, it would be possible to observe these effects in the forthcoming (anti)neutrino experiments like DUNE, SHiP and DsTau.

These are a brief set of lectures notes for lectures given at the Les Houches Summer School in Theoretical Biological Physics in July 2023. In these notes, I provide an introduction to some of the theoretical frameworks that are used to understand how the brain makes sense of incoming signals from the environment to ultimately guide effective behavior. I then discuss how we can apply these frameworks to understand the structure and function of real brains.
Exact solution for two $\delta$-interacting bosons on a ring in the presence of a $\delta$-barrier: Asymmetric Bethe Ansatz for spatially odd states

In this article, we apply the recently proposed Asymmetric Bethe Ansatz method to the problem of two one-dimensional, short-range-interacting bosons on a ring in the presence of a $\delta$-function barrier. Only half of the Hilbert space—namely, the two-body states that are odd under point inversion about the position of the barrier—is accessible to this method. The other half is presumably non-integrable. We consider benchmarking the recently proposed $1/g$ expansion about the hard-core boson point [D. Sen, Int. J. Mod. Phys. A 14, 1789 (1999); A. G. Volosniev et al., Nat. Commun. 5, 5300 (2014)] as one application of our results. Additionally, we find that when the $\delta$-barrier is converted to a $\delta$-well with strength equal to that of the particle-particle interaction, the system exhibits the spectrum of its non-interacting counterpart while its eigenstates display features of a strongly interacting system. We discuss this phenomenon in the "Summary and Future Research" section of our paper.
