• Centrality dependence of multistrange baryon production in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

  We consider the experimental data on the production of strange $\Lambda^{\prime}$s, and multistrange baryons ($\Xi$, $\Omega$), and antibaryons, on nuclear targets, at the energy region from SPS up to LHC, in the framework of the Quark-Gluon String Model. One remarkable result of this analysis is the significant dependence on the centrality of the collision of the experimental $\overline{\Xi}^+/\overline{\Lambda}$ and $\overline{\Omega}^+/\overline{\Lambda}$ ratios in heavy-ion collisions, at SPS energies.

• How the blast-wave model describes PID hadron spectra from 5 TeV p-Pb collisions

  The blast-wave (BW) spectrum model has been applied extensively to nucleus-nucleus collision data with the intention to demonstrate formation of a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in more-central A-A collisions. More recently the BW model has been applied to p-p, d-Au and p-Pb collisions. Such results are interpreted to indicate that "collectivity" (flows) and QGP appear in smaller systems. In this talk I review BW analysis of identified-hadron spectra from 5 TeV p-Pb collisions and examine the shape evolution of model spectra with collision centrality. I evaluate data-model fit quality using conventional statistical measures. I conclude that the BW model is not a valid data model.

• Λ(1520) resonance production with respect to transverse spherocity using EPOS3+UrQMD

  Resonances are sensitive to the properties of the medium created in heavy ion collision. They also provide insight into the properties of the hadronic phase. Studying the dependence of the yield of resonances on transverse spherocity and multiplicity allows us to understand the resonance production mechanism with event topology and system size, respectively. The results reported pertain to $\Lambda(1520)$, using predictions from EPOS3+UrQMD event generator.

• Anomalous coupling studies with intact protons at the LHC

  We describe the reaches on quartic $\gamma \gamma \gamma \gamma$, $\gamma \gamma WW$, $\gamma \gamma ZZ$, $\gamma \gamma \gamma Z$, $\gamma \gamma t \bar{t}$ anomalous couplings at the LHC using intact protons in the final state measured in AFP in ATLAS or PPS in CMS-TOTEM.

• Precision physics with the proton spectrometer and diffractive physics measurements from CMS

  We describe recent results from CMS and TOTEM on hard diffraction, diffractive jets and jet gap jet events. We also give the first sensitivities and limits on quartic anomalous couplings and axion-like particles at high mass using the LHC as a $\gamma \gamma$ collider. The predicted sensitivities with 300 fb$^{-1}$ are better by two or three orders of magnitude compared to the more standard methods at the LHC without measuring intact protons after collision.

• Top-down and bottom-up: Studying the SMEFT beyond leading order in $1/\Lambda^2$

  In order to assess the relevance of higher order terms in the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT) expansion we consider four new physics models and their impact on the Drell Yan cross section. Of these four, one scalar model has no effect on Drell Yan, a model of fermions while appearing to generate a momentum expansion actually belongs to the vacuum expectation value expansion and so has a nominal effect on the process. The remaining two, a leptoquark and a $Z'$ model exhibit a momentum expansion. After matching these models to dimension-ten we study the how the inclusion of dimension-eight and dimension-ten operators in hypothetical effective field theory fits to the full ultraviolet models impacts fits. We do this both in the top-down approach, and in a very limited approximation to the bottom up approach of the SMEFT to infer the impact of a fully general fit to the SMEFT. We find that for the more weakly coupled models a strictly dimension-six fit is sufficient. In contrast when stronger interactions or lighter masses are considered the inclusion of dimension-eight operators becomes necessary. However, their Wilson coefficients perform the role of nuisance parameters with best fit values which can differ statistically from the theory prediction. In the most strongly coupled theories considered (which are already ruled out by data) the inclusion of dimension-ten operators allows for the measurement of dimension-eight operator coefficients consistent with theory predictions and the dimension-ten operator coefficients then behave as nuisance parameters. We also study the impact of the inclusion of partial next order results, such as dimension-six squared contributions, and find that in some cases they improve the convergence of the series while in others they hinder it.

• Anomalies, representations, and self-supervision

  We develop a self-supervised method for density-based anomaly detection using contrastive learning, and test it using event-level anomaly data from CMS ADC2021. The AnomalyCLR technique is data-driven and uses augmentations of the background data to mimic non-Standard-Model events in a model-agnostic way. It uses a permutation-invariant Transformer Encoder architecture to map the objects measured in a collider event to the representation space, where the data augmentations define a representation space which is sensitive to potential anomalous features. An AutoEncoder trained on background representations then computes anomaly scores for a variety of signals in the representation space. With AnomalyCLR we find significant improvements on performance metrics for all signals when compared to the raw data baseline.

• Goodness of fit by Neyman-Pearson testing

  The Neyman-Pearson strategy for hypothesis testing can be employed for goodness of fit if the alternative hypothesis is selected from data by exploring a rich parametrised family of models, while controlling the impact of statistical fluctuations. The New Physics Learning Machine (NPLM) methodology has been developed as a concrete implementation of this idea, to target the detection of new physical effects in the context of high energy physics collider experiments. In this paper we conduct a comparison of this approach to goodness of fit with others, in particular with classifier-based strategies that share strong similarities with NPLM. From our comparison, NPLM emerges as the more sensitive test to small departures of the data from the expected distribution and not biased towards detecting specific types of anomalies. These features make it suited for agnostic searches for new physics at collider experiments. Its deployment in other scientific and industrial scenarios should be investigated.

• Roy Glauber and asymptotic diffraction theory

  This is a review of Glauber's asymptotic diffraction theory, in which diffractive scattering is described in terms of interference between semiclassical amplitudes, resulting from a stationary-phase approximation. Typically two such amplitudes are sufficient to accurately describe elastic scattering, but the stationary points are located at complex values of the impact parameter. Their separation controls the interference pattern, and their offsets from the real axis determine the overall fall-off with momentum transfer. Asymptotically, at large momentum transfers, the stationary points move towards singularities of the profile function. I also include some reminiscences from our collaboration.

• $tW$ and $tZ'$ production at hadron colliders

  We present theoretical results with soft-gluon corrections for two separate processes: (1) the production of a single top quark in association with a $W$ boson in the Standard Model; and (2) the production of a single top quark in association with a heavy $Z'$ boson in new physics models with or without anomalous couplings. We show that the higher-order corrections from soft-gluon emission are dominant for a wide range of collider energies. Results are shown for the total cross sections and top-quark transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions for $tW$ and $tZ'$ production at LHC and future collider energies up to 100 TeV. The uncertainties from scale dependence and parton distribution functions are also analyzed.
