• How to determine the shape of nuclear molecules with polarized gamma-rays

  A method has been recently proposed to establish the geometry of the alpha-cluster arrangement in $^{12}$C making use of polarized gamma-rays. The ratio of intensities of scattered radiation at 90 degrees along and perpendicular to the initial direction of the electric field vector, called depolarization ratio, is a key quantity that allows to underpin the nature of totally symmetric modes of vibrations. This allows to connect with the underlying point-group structure and therefore to the geometric shape of the nuclear molecule. This method is reviewed for $^{12}$C and extended to other configurations, such as three unequal clusters and four identical clusters (e.g. $^{16}$O).

• The inversion of the Lorentz integral transform with controlled resolution

  The Lorentz integral transform (LIT) method is briefly presented. The ill-posedness of the inversion is discussed and it is pointed out that the LIT is an integral transform with a controlled resolution. As application the dipole response of a three-particle system bound in a hypercentral potential is considered. The inversion is performed in two ways, both employ expansions of the response function and of the LIT on a basis set and a transformed basis set, respectively. A previous study of the process under consideration seemed to point to serious problems in the inversion process. In the present work, however, it is shown that the LIT approach can be carried out in a reliable way.

• Recent progress on the study of nucleon structure from lattice QCD and future perspectives

  We review the progress achieved within the last five years in the simulations of lattice QCD, as well as in the analysis for selected quantities probing nucleon structure. In particular, we discuss results on the nucleon electromagnetic form factors, $\sigma$-terms, the momentum fraction carried b quark in the nucleon and the helicity and transversity. All quantities are obtained using simulations generated with quark masses fixed to their physical values. In addition, we review the on-going effort to extract parton distribution functions (PDFs) directly from lattice QCD using the quasi-PDFs approach.

• Investigations of the few-nucleon systems within the LENPIC project

  Results presented in this contribution are obtained within the Low Energy Nuclear Physics International Collaboration (LENPIC). LENPIC aims to develop chiral nucleon-nucleon and many-nucleon interactions complete through at least the fourth order in the chiral expansion. These interactions will be used together with consistently derived current operators to solve the structure and reactions of light and medium-mass nuclei including electroweak processes. In this contribution the current status of the chiral nuclear forces and current operators will be briefly discussed. A special role played by the calculations of nucleon-deuteron scattering will be explained.

• Cavity-induced bifurcation in classical rate theory

  We show how coupling an ensemble of bistable systems to a common cavity field affects the collective stochastic behavior of this ensemble. In particular, the cavity provides an effective interaction between the systems, and parametrically modifies the transition rates between the metastable states. We predict that the cavity induces a phase transition at a critical temperature which depends linearly on the number of systems. It shows up as a spontaneous symmetry breaking where the stationary states of the bistable system bifurcate. We observe that the transition rates slow down independently of the phase transition, but the rate modification vanishes for alternating signs of the system-cavity couplings, corresponding to a disordered ensemble of dipoles. Our results are of particular relevance in polaritonic chemistry where the presence of a cavity has been suggested to affect chemical reactions.

• Quantum circuit simulation of linear optics using fermion to qubit encoding

  This work proposes a digital quantum simulation protocol for the linear scattering process of bosons, which provides a simple extension to partially distinguishable boson cases. Our protocol is achieved by combining the boson-fermion correspondence relation and fermion to qubit encoding protocols. As a proof of concept, we designed quantum circuits for generating the Hong-Ou-Mandel dip by varying particle distinguishability. The circuits were verified with the classical and quantum simulations using the IBM Quantum and IonQ cloud services.

• Topological photonic band gaps in honeycomb atomic arrays

  lattice of two-level atoms coupled by the in-plane electromagnetic field may exhibit band gaps that can be opened either by applying an external magnetic field or by breaking the symmetry between the two triangular sublattices of which the honeycomb one is a superposition. We establish the conditions of band gap opening, compute the width of the gap, and characterize its topological property by a topological index (Chern number). The topological nature of the band gap leads to inversion of the population imbalance between the two triangular sublattices for modes with frequencies near band edges. It also prohibits a transition to the trivial limit of infinitely spaced, noninteracting atoms without closing the spectral gap. Surrounding the lattice by a Fabry-Pérot cavity with small intermirror spacing $d < \pi/k_0$, where $k_0$ is the free-space wave number at the atomic resonance frequency, renders the system Hermitian by suppressing the leakage of energy out of the atomic plane without modifying its topological properties. In contrast, a larger $d$ allows for propagating optical modes that are built up due to reflections at the cavity mirrors and have frequencies inside the band gap of the free-standing lattice, thus closing the latter.

• Exact first-order effect of interactions on the ground-state energy of harmonically-confined fermions

  We consider a system of $N$ spinless fermions, interacting with each other via a power-law interaction $\epsilon/r^n$, and trapped in an external harmonic potential $V(r) = r^2/2$, in $d=1,2,3$ dimensions. For any $0 < n < d+2$, we obtain the ground-state energy $E_N$ of the system perturbatively in $\epsilon$, $E_{N}=E_{N}^{(0)}+\epsilon E_{N}^{(1)}+O(\epsilon^{2})$. We calculate $E_{N}^{(1)}$ exactly, assuming that $N$ is such that the "outer shell" is filled. For the case of $n=1$ (corresponding to a Coulomb interaction for $d=3$), we extract the $N \gg 1$ behavior of $E_{N}^{(1)}$, focusing on the corrections to the exchange term with respect to the leading-order term that is predicted from the local density approximation applied to the Thomas-Fermi approximate density distribution. The leading correction contains a logarithmic divergence, and is of particular importance in the context of density functional theory. We also study the effect of the interactions on the fermions' spatial density. Finally, we find that our result for $E_{N}^{(1)}$ significantly simplifies in the case where $n$ is even.

• Hands-on introduction to randomized benchmarking

  Randomized benchmarking techniques have been an essential tool for assessing the performance of contemporary quantum devices. The goal of this tutorial is to provide a pedagogical, self-contained, introduction to randomized benchmarking. With this intention, every chapter is also supplemented with an accompanying Python notebook, illustrating the essential steps of each protocol. In addition, we also introduce more recent trends in the field that bridge shadow tomography with randomized benchmarking, namely through the gate-set shadow protocol.

• Influence of the Pauli principle on two-cluster potential energy

  We study effects of the Pauli principle on the potential energy of two-cluster systems. The object of the investigation is the lightest nuclei of p-shell with a dominant $\alpha$-cluster channel. For this aim we construct matrix elements of two-cluster potential energy between cluster oscillator functions with and without full antisymmetrization. Eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the potential energy matrix are studied in detail. Eigenfunctions of the potential energy operator are presented in oscillator, coordinate and momentum spaces. We demonstrate that the Pauli principle affects more strongly the eigenfunctions than the eigenvalues of the matrix and leads to the formation of resonance and trapped states.
