• Group invariants for Feynman diagrams

  It is well-known that the symmetry group of a Feynman diagram can give important information on possible strategies for its evaluation, and the mathematical objects that will be involved. Motivated by ongoing work on multi-loop multi-photon amplitudes in quantum electrodynamics, here I will discuss the usefulness of introducing a polynomial basis of invariants of the symmetry group of a diagram in Feynman-Schwinger parameter space.

• A sharp transition in quantum chaos and thermodynamics of mass deformed SYK model

  We review our recent work [arXiv:2009.10759] where we studied the chaotic property of the two coupled Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev systems exhibiting a Hawking-Page like phase transition. By computing the out-of-time-ordered correlator in the large N limit by using the bilocal field formalism, we found that the chaos exponent of this model shows a discontinuous fall-off at the phase transition temperature. Hence in this model the Hawking-Page like transition is correlated with a transition in chaoticity, as expected from the relation between a black hole geometry and the chaotic behavior in the dual field theory.

• SO(1,3) Yang-Mills solutions on Minkowski space via cosets

  We present a novel family of Yang-Mills solutions, with gauge group SO(1,3), on Minkowski space that are geometrically distinguished into two classes, viz. interior and exterior of the lightcone. We achieve this by foliating the former with SO(1,3)/SO(3) cosets and the latter with SO(1,3)/SO(1,2) cosets and analytically solving the Yang-Mills equation of an SO(1,3)-invariant gauge field. The resulting fields and their stress-energy tensor, when translated to the Minkowski space, diverge at the lightcone, but we demonstrate how this stress-energy tensor could be regularised due to its unique algebraic structure.

• Vinberg's T-algebras: From exceptional periodicity to black hole entropy

  We introduce the so-called Magic Star (MS) projection within the root lattice of finite-dimensional exceptional Lie algebras, and relate it to rank-3 simple and semi-simple Jordan algebras. By relying on the Bott periodicity of reality and conjugacy properties of spinor representations, we present the so-called Exceptional Periodicity (EP) algebras, which are finite-dimensional algebras, violating the Jacobi identity, and providing an alternative with respect to Kac-Moody infinite-dimensional Lie algebras. Remarkably, also EP algebras can be characterized in terms of a MS projection, exploiting special Vinberg T-algebras, a class of generalized Hermitian matrix algebras introduced by Vinberg in the '60s within his theory of homogeneous convex cones. As physical applications, we highlight the role of the invariant norm of special Vinberg T-algebras in Maxwell-Einstein-scalar theories in 5 space-time dimensions, in which the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extremal black strings can be expressed in terms of the cubic polynomial norm of the T-algebras.

• Proving the dimension-shift conjecture

  We prove the conjecture made by Bern, Dixon, Dunbar, and Kosower that describes a simple dimension shifting relationship between the one-loop structure of N = 4 MHV amplitudes and all-plus helicity amplitudes in pure Yang-Mills theory. The proof captures all orders in dimensional regularisation using unitarity cuts, by combining massive spinor-helicity with Coulomb-branch supersymmetry. The form of these amplitudes can be given in terms of pentagon and box integrals using a generalised D-dimensional

• A pitfall in applying non-anticommuting $γ_5$ in $q\overline{q} \rightarrow ZH$ amplitudes

  In computing the two-loop QCD corrections to a class of Feynman diagrams for the process $q\overline{q} \rightarrow ZH$ in Higgs effective field theory, we discover a striking phenomenon. We find the need for an additional local composite operator in the renormalised Lagrangian while employing a non-anticommuting $\gamma_5$ in dimensional regularisation. The computation using anticommuting $\gamma_5$, however, does not require any such amendment.

• Construction of matryoshka nested indecomposable N-replications of Kac-modules of quasi-reductive Lie superalgebras, including the sl(m/n) and osp(2/2n) series

  We construct a new class of finite dimensional indecomposable representations of simple superalgebras which may explain, in a natural way, the existence of the heavier elementary particles. In type I Lie superalgebras sl(m/n) and osp(2/2n), one of the Dynkin weights labeling the finite dimensional irreducible representations is continuous. Taking the derivative, we show how to construct indecomposable representations recursively embedding N copies of the original irreducible representation, coupled by generalized Cabibbo angles, as observed among the three generations of leptons and quarks of the standard model. The construction is then generalized in the appendix to quasi-reductive Lie superalgebras.

• The geometry of Casimir W-algebras

  Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simply laced Lie algebra, $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}_1$ the corresponding affine Lie algebra at level one, and $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{g})$ the corresponding Casimir W-algebra. We consider $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{g})$-symmetric conformal field theory on the Riemann sphere. To a number of $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{g})$-primary fields, we associate a Fuchsian differential system. We compute correlation functions of $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}_1$-currents in terms of solutions of that system, and construct the bundle where these objects live. We argue that cycles on that bundle correspond to parameters of the conformal blocks of the W-algebra, equivalently to moduli of the Fuchsian system.

• Conformal boundary conditions for a 4d scalar field

  We construct unitary, stable, and interacting conformal boundary conditions for a free massless scalar in four dimensions by coupling it to edge modes living on a boundary. The boundary theories we consider are bosonic and fermionic QED$_3$ with $N_f$ flavors and a Chern-Simons term at level $k$, in the large-$N_f$ limit with fixed $k/N_f$. We find that interacting boundary conditions only exist when $k≠ 0$. To obtain this result we compute the $\beta$ functions of the classically marginal couplings at the first non-vanishing order in the large-$N_f$ expansion, and to all orders in $k/N_f$ and in the couplings. To check vacuum stability we also compute the large-$N_f$ effective potential. We compare our results with the the known conformal bootstrap bounds.

• Radiative asymptotic symmetries of 3D Einstein-Maxwell theory

  We study the null asymptotic structure of Einstein-Maxwell theory in three-dimensional (3D) spacetimes. Although devoid of bulk gravitational degrees of freedom, the system admits a massless photon and can therefore accommodate electromagnetic radiation. We derive fall-off conditions for the Maxwell field that contain both Coulombic and radiative modes with non-vanishing news. The latter produces non-integrability and fluxes in the asymptotic surface charges, and gives rise to a non-trivial 3D Bondi mass loss formula. The resulting solution space is thus analogous to a dimensional reduction of 4D pure gravity, with the role of gravitational radiation played by its electromagnetic cousin. We use this simplified setup to investigate choices of charge brackets in detail, and compute in particular the recently introduced Koszul bracket. When the latter is applied to Wald-Zoupas charges, which are conserved in the absence of news, it leads to the field-dependent central extension found earlier in [Class. Quantum Gravity 32, 245001 (2015)]. We also consider (Anti-)de Sitter asymptotics to further exhibit the analogy between this model and 4D gravity with leaky boundary conditions.
