• Beyond PT-symmetry: Towards a symmetry-metric relation for time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians

  In this work we first propose a method for the derivation of a general continuous antilinear time-dependent (TD) symmetry operator I(t) for a TD non-Hermitian Hamiltonian H(t). Assuming H(t) to be simultaneously ρ(t)-pseudo-Hermitian and Ξ(t)-anti-pseudo-Hermitian, we also derive the antilinear symmetry I(t)=Ξ⁻¹(t)ρ(t), which retrieves an important result obtained by Mostafazadeh [J. Math, Phys. 43, 3944 (2002)] for the time-independent (TI) scenario. We apply our method for the derivaton of the symmetry associated with TD non-Hermitian linear and quadratic Hamiltonians. The computed TD symmetry operators for both cases are then particularized for their equivalent TI lHamiltonians and PT-symmetric restrictions. In the TI scenario we retrieve the well-known Bender-Berry-Mandilara result for the symmetry operator: I^{2k}=1 with k odd [J. Phys. A 35, L467 (2002)]. The results here derived allow us to propose a useful symmetry-metric relation for TD non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. From this relation the TD metric is automatically derived from the TD symmetry of the problem. Then, when placed in perspective with the antilinear symmetry I(t)=Ξ⁻¹(t)ρ(t), the symmetry-metric relation finally allow us to derive the Ξ(t)-anti-pseudo-Hermitian operator. Our results reinforce the prospects of going beyond PT-symmetric quantum mechanics making the field of pseudo-Hermiticity even more comprehensive and promising.

• Topological insulators and geometry of vector bundles

  For a long time, band theory of solids has focused on the energy spectrum, or Hamiltonian eigenvalues. Recently, it was realized that the collection of eigenvectors also contains important physical information. The local geometry of eigenspaces determines the electric polarization, while their global twisting gives rise to the metallic surface states in topological insulators. These phenomena are central topics of the present notes. The shape of eigenspaces is also responsible for many intriguing physical analogies, which have their roots in the theory of vector bundles. We give an informal introduction to the geometry and topology of vector bundles and describe various physical models from this mathematical perspective.

• Codebase release 1.0 for EMRI_MC

  We describe a simple and efficient Python code to perform Bayesian forecasting for gravitational waves (GW) produced by Extreme-Mass-Ratio-Inspiral systems (EMRIs). The code runs on GPUs for an efficient parallelised computation of thousands of waveforms and sampling of the posterior through a Markov-Chain-Monte-Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. EMRI_MC generates EMRI waveforms based on the so-called kludge scheme, and propagates it to the observer accounting for cosmological effects in the observed waveform due to modified gravity/dark energy. The code provides a helpful resource for forecasts for interferometry missions in the milli-Hz scale, e.g the satellite-mission LISA.

• Quantum cylindrical integrability in magnetic fields

  We present the classification of quadratically integrable systems of the cylindrical type with magnetic fields in quantum mechanics. Following the direct method used in classical mechanics by [F Fournier et al 2020 J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 53 085203] to facilitate the comparison, the cases which may a priori differ yield 2 systems without any correction and 2 with it. In all of them the magnetic field B coincides with the classical one, only the scalar potential W may contain a $\hbar^2$-dependent correction. Two of the systems have both cylindrical integrals quadratic in momenta and are therefore not separable. These results form a basis for a prospective study of superintegrability.

• Effective description of non-equilibrium currents in cold magnetized plasma

  The dynamics of cold strongly magnetized plasma -- traditionally the domain of force-free electrodynamics -- has recently been reformulated in terms of symmetries and effective field theory, where the degrees of freedom are the momentum and magnetic flux carried by a fluid of cold strings. In physical applications where the electron mass can be neglected one might expect the presence of extra light charged modes -- electrons in the lowest Landau level -- propagating parallel to the magnetic field lines. We construct an effective description of such electric charges, describing their interaction with plasma degrees of freedom in terms of a new collective mode that can be thought of as a bosonization of the electric charge density along each field line. In this framework QED phenomena such as charged pair production and the axial anomaly are described at the classical level. Formally, our construction corresponds to gauging a particular part of the higher form symmetry associated with magnetic flux conservation. We study some simple applications of our effective theory, showing that the scattering of magnetosonic modes generically creates particles and that the rotating Michel monopole is now surrounded by a cloud of electric charge.

• Even lighter particle dark matter

  We report on recent progress in the search for dark matter particles with masses from 1 Mev to 1 Gev . Several dark matter candidates in this mass range are expected to generate measurable electronic-recoil signals in direct-detection experiments. We focus on dark matter particles scattering with electrons in semiconductor detectors since they have fundamentally the highest sensitivity due to their low ionization threshold. Charge-coupled device (CCD) silicon detectors are the leading technology, with significant progress expected in the coming years. We present the status of the CCD program and briefly report on other efforts.

  The Algorithms for Lattice Fermions package provides a general code for the finite-temperature and projective auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo algorithm. The code is engineered to be able to simulate any model that can be written in terms of sums of single-body operators, of squares of single-body operators and single-body operators coupled to a bosonic field with given dynamics. The package includes five pre-defined model classes: SU(N) Kondo, SU(N) Hubbard, SU(N) t-V and SU(N) models with long range Coulomb repulsion on honeycomb, square and N-leg lattices, as well as $Z_2$ unconstrained lattice gauge theories coupled to fermionic and $Z_2$ matter. An implementation of the stochastic Maximum Entropy method is also provided. • Molecular sorting on a fluctuating membrane

  Molecular sorting in biological membranes is essential for proper cellular function. It also plays a crucial role in the budding of enveloped viruses from host cells. We recently proposed that this process is driven by phase separation, where the formation and growth of sorting domains depend primarily on direct intermolecular interactions. In addition to these, Casimir-like forces—arising from entropic effects in fluctuating membranes —may also play a significant role in the molecular distillation process. Here, using a combination of theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, we explore how Casimir-like forces between rigid membrane inclusions contribute to sorting, particularly in the biologically relevant regime where direct intermolecular interactions are weak. Our results show that these forces enhance molecular distillation by reducing the critical radius for the formation of new sorting domains and facilitating the capture of molecules within these domains. We identify the relative rigidity of the membrane and supermolecular domains as a key parameter controlling molecular sorting efficiency, offering new insights into the physical principles underlying molecular sorting in biological systems.

  We introduce a tensor network library designed for classical and quantum physics simulations called Cytnx (pronounced as sci-tens). This library provides an almost identical interface and syntax for both C++ and Python, allowing users to effortlessly switch between the two languages. Aiming at a quick learning process for new users of tensor network algorithms, the interfaces resemble the popular Python scientific libraries like NumPy, Scipy, and PyTorch. Not only multiple global Abelian symmetries can be easily defined and implemented, Cytnx also provides a new tool called Network that allows users to store large tensor networks and perform tensor network contractions in an optimal order automatically. With the integration of cuQuantum, tensor calculations can also be executed efficiently on GPUs. We present benchmark results for tensor operations on both devices, CPU and GPU. We also discuss features and higher-level interfaces to be added in the future.

• Probabilistic deconstruction of a theory of gravity, part I: Flat space

  We define and analyze a stochastic process in anti-de Sitter Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity, induced by the quantum dynamics of the boundary and whose random variable takes values in $AdS_2$. With the boundary in a thermal state and for appropriate parameters, we take the asymptotic limit of the quantum process at short time scales and flat space, and show associated classical joint distributions have the Markov property. We find that Einstein's equations of the theory, sans the cosmological constant term, arise in the semi-classical limit of the quantum evolution of probability under the asymptotic process. In particular, in flat Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity, the area of compactified space solved for by Einstein's equations can be identified as a probability density evolving under the Markovian process.
