• Pychastic: Precise Brownian dynamics using Taylor-Itō integrators in Python

  In the last decade, Python-powered physics simulations ecosystem has been growing steadily, allowing greater interoperability, and becoming an important tool in numerical exploration of physical phenomena, particularly in soft matter systems. Driven by the need for fast and precise numerical integration in colloidal dynamics, here we formulate the problem of Brownian Dynamics (BD) in a mathematically consistent formalism of the Itō calculus, and develop a Python package to assist numerical computations. We show that, thanks to the automatic differentiation packages, the classical truncated Taylor-Itō integrators can be implemented without the burden of computing the derivatives of the coefficient functions beforehand. Furthermore, we show how to circumvent the difficulties of BD simulations such as calculations of the divergence of the mobility tensor in the diffusion equation and discontinuous trajectories encountered when working with dynamics on $S^2$ and $SO(3)$. The resulting Python package, Pychastic, is capable of performing BD simulations including hydrodynamic interactions at speeds comparable to dedicated implementations in lower-level programming languages, but with a much simpler end-user interface.

• Local Unitarity

  Within the Local Unitarity formalism, any physical cross-section is re-written in such a way that cancellations of infrared singularities between real and virtual contributions are realised locally. Consequently, phase-space and loop integrals are regulated locally without the need of any counter-terms or dimensional regularisation aside from those strictly needed to achieve ultraviolet regularisation. This Local Unitarity representation is especially suitable to direct Monte Carlo integration. As such, it offers a clear and direct path to automate the computation of fixed-order differential observables in Quantum Field Theories.

• A systematic interpolatory method for an impurity in a one-dimensional fermionic background

  We explore a new numerical method for studying one-dimensional quantum systems in a trapping potential. We focus on the setup of an impurity in a fermionic background, where a single distinguishable particle interacts through a contact potential with a number of identical fermions. We can accurately describe this system, for various particle numbers, different trapping potentials and arbitrary finite repulsion, by constructing a truncated basis containing states at both zero and infinite repulsion. The results are compared with matrix product states methods and with the analytical result for two particles in a harmonic well.

• Anyons in a tight wave-guide and the Tonks-Girardeau gas

  We consider a many-body system of 2D anyons, free quantum particles with general statistics parameter $\alpha ∈ ]0,2[$. In the magnetic gauge picture they are described as bosons attached to Aharonov-Bohm fluxes of intensity $2\pi \alpha$, generating long-range magnetic forces. A dimensional reduction to 1D is obtained by imposing a strongly anisotropic trapping potential. This freezes the motion in the direction of strong trapping, leading to 1D physics along the weak direction. The latter is governed to leading order by the Tonks-Girardeau model of impenetrable bosons, independently of $\alpha$.

• Device-independent and semi-device-independent entanglement certification in broadcast Bell scenarios

  It has recently been shown that by broadcasting the subsystems of a bipartite quantum state, one can activate Bell nonlocality and significantly improve noise tolerance bounds for device-independent entanglement certification. In this work we strengthen these results and explore new aspects of this phenomenon. First, we prove new results related to the activation of Bell nonlocality. We construct Bell inequalities tailored to the broadcast scenario, and show how broadcasting can lead to even stronger notions of Bell nonlocality activation. In particular, we exploit these ideas to show that bipartite states admitting a local hidden-variable model for general measurements can lead to genuine tripartite nonlocal correlations. We then study device-independent entanglement certification in the broadcast scenario, and show through semidefinite programming techniques that device-independent entanglement certification is possible for the two-qubit Werner state in essentially the entire range of entanglement. Finally, we extend the concept of EPR steering to the broadcast scenario, and present novel examples of activation of the two-qubit isotropic state. Our results pave the way for broadcast-based device-independent and semi-device-independent protocols.

• The functional generalization of the Boltzmann-Vlasov equation and its gauge-like symmetry

  We argue that one can model deviations from the ensemble average in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics by promoting the Boltzmann equation to an equation in terms of functionals , representing possible candidates for phase space distributions inferred from a finite observed number of degrees of freedom. We find that, provided the collision term and the Vlasov drift term are both included, a gauge-like redundancy arises which does not go away even if the functional is narrow. We argue that this effect is linked to the gauge-like symmetry found in relativistic hydrodynamics [Ann. Phys. 442, 168902 (2022)] and that it could be part of the explanation for the apparent fluid-like behavior in small systems in hadronic collisions and other strongly-coupled small systems [Annu. Rev. Nucl. Part. Sci. 68, 211 (2018)]. When causality and Lorentz invariance are omitted this problem can be look at via random matrix theory show, and we show that in such a case thermalization happens much more quickly than the Boltzmann equation would infer. We also sketch an algorithm to study this problem numerically.

• Heavy Flavor and Jet Studies for the Future Electron-Ion Collider to Explore the Hadronization Process

  Heavy flavor production at the future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) will allow us to precisely determine the quark/gluon fragmentation processes in vacuum and the nuclear medium especially within the poorly constrained kinematic region. Heavy flavor hadron and jet reconstruction with the recent EIC detector design have been studies in simulation. Results of corresponding physics projections such as the flavor dependent hadron nuclear modification factor $R_{eA}$ in electron+nucleus collisions will be shown. The statistical precision obtained by these proposed heavy flavor measurements for the future EIC provides a strong discriminating power in separating different theoretical predictions.

  Ultra-low-mass axions are a viable dark matter candidate and may form a coherently oscillating classical field. Nuclear spins in experiments on Earth might couple to this oscillating axion dark-matter field, when propagating on Earth's trajectory through our Galaxy. This spin coupling resembles an oscillating pseudo-magnetic field which modulates the spin precession of nuclear spins. Here we report on the null result of a demonstration experiment searching for a frequency modulation of the free spin-precession signal of \magHg in a 1 $\mu$T magnetic field. Our search covers the axion mass range $10^{-16}$ eV $\lesssim m_a \lesssim 10^{-13}$ eV and achieves a peak sensitivity to the axion-nucleon coupling of $g_{aNN} \approx 3.5 \times 10^{-6}$ GeV$^{-1}$.

• A numerical study of bounds in the correlations of fractional quantum Hall states

  We numerically compute the guiding center static structure factor $\bar S(k)$ of various fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states to $\mathcal{O}(k\ell)^6$ where $k$ is the wavenumber and $\ell$ is the magnetic length. Employing density matrix renormalization group on an infinite cylinder of circumference $L_y$, we study the two-dimensional limit using $L_y/\xi \gg 1$, where $\xi$ is the correlation length. The main findings of our work are: 1) the ground states that deviate away from the ideal conformal block wavefunctions, do not saturate the Haldane bound, and 2) the coefficient of $O(k\ell)^6$ term appears to be bounded above by a value predicted by field theories proposed in the literature. The first finding implies that the graviton mode is not maximally chiral for experimentally relevant FQH states.

• Adiabatic state distribution using anti-ferromagnetic spin systems

  Transporting quantum information is an important prerequisite for quantum computers. We study how this can be done in Heisenberg-coupled spin networks using adiabatic control over the coupling strengths. We find that qudits can be transferred and entangled pairs can be created between distant sites of bipartite graphs with a certain balance between the maximum spin of both parts, extending previous results that were limited to linear chains. The transfer fidelity in a small star-shaped network is numerically analysed, and possible experimental implementations are discussed.
