Longitudinal double-spin asymmetries of inclusive jet and dijet production at STAR

At the STAR experiment, the gluon helicity distribution $\Delta g(x, Q^2)$ can be accessed through the double-spin asymmetries $A_{LL}$ of inclusive jet and dijet production in collisions of longitudinally polarized protons. These proceedings report on recently published results of $A_{LL}$ for inclusive jets and dijets at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ ~GeV and $\sqrt{s} = 510$ GeV in mid-pseudorapidity ( $|\eta| < 1$ ) and preliminary results for dijets in intermediate pseudrapidity ( $-0.8 < \eta < 1.8$ ). The mid-pseudorapidity jet and dijet measurements are sensitive to $\Delta g(x, Q^2)$ for gluon momentum fractions $x$ from $\simeq 0.5$ down to $\simeq 0.015$ ; the sensitivity region for dijets in intermediate pseudorapidity at 510 GeV extends to even lower $x$ . The measurements are in good agreement with previous STAR results and recent theoretical evaluations of prior world data.
Mergers as a probe of particle dark matter

Black holes below Chandrasekhar mass limit (1.4 $M_{\odot}$ ) can not be produced via any standard stellar evolution. Recently, gravitational wave experiments have also discovered unusually low mass black holes whose origin is yet to be known. We propose a simple yet novel formation mechanism of such low mass black holes. Non-annihilating particle dark matter, owing to their interaction with stellar nuclei, can gradually accumulate inside compact stars, and eventually swallows them to low mass black holes, ordinarily impermissible by the Chandrasekhar limit. We point out several avenues to test this proposal, concentrating on the cosmic evolution of the binary merger rates.
Search for lepton-flavour-violating decays of the $Z$ boson into a $\tau$ -lepton and a light lepton with the ATLAS detector

Lepton flavour violation in the charged lepton sector is an unambiguous signal of physics beyond the Standard Model. Searches for lepton flavour violation in decays of the $Z$ boson with the ATLAS detector is reported, focusing on decays into an electron or muon and a hadronically decaying $\tau$ -lepton, using $pp$ collisions data with a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Upper limits on the branching ratios of lepton-flavor-violating decays are set at the 95\% confidence level: $\mathcal{B}(Z\to e\tau) < 5.8\times10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(Z\to \mu\tau) < 2.4\times10^{-5}$ . When combined with a previous ATLAS result based on $pp$ collisions data with a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, an upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(Z\to \mu\tau) < 1.3\times10^{-5}$ is obtained.
Exclusive electro-weak production of a charmed meson at high energy

Exclusive electro-weak processes have peculiar features which make them complementary to usually discussed deeply virtual electroproduction processes such as deep virtual Compton scattering or meson production (and the corresponding crossed reactions). They allow in particular single charmed meson production, which we study in two different contexts : electroproduction at an electron ion collider and neutrino-production at a medium energy neutrino facility. We rely on the QCD collinear factorization framework where generalized parton distributions allow physicists to perform a nucleon tomography.

These lecture notes, prepared for the 2024 XQCD PhD, provide an introduction to the analytic structure of an equation of state near a second-order phase transition and its most prominent landmark: the Yang-Lee edge singularity. In addition to discussing general properties, the notes review recent theoretical progress in locating the QCD critical point by tracking the trajectory of the Yang-Lee edge singularity.
Self-similar solutions for fuzzy dark matter

Self-similar solutions for fuzzy dark matter are very different from their counterparts in the standard cold dark matter model. In contrast to the familiar hierarchical collapse of the current model for structure formation, they correspond to an inverse hierarchical blow-up. This fact highlights the gravitational cooling process, which in the absence of dissipation, allows the system to eject excess energy through the intermittent expulsion of clumps of matter. These surprising behaviours are due to the wave properties of the Schrödinger equation and to the quantum pressure. These features are printed in the Eulerian density-velocity representation of the nonrelativistic scalar field, or in the Lagrangian representation in the mass-shell trajectories.

Measurements of the longitudinal spin transfer, $D_{LL}$ , and the transverse spin transfer, $D_{TT}$ , of the $\Lambda(\bar{\Lambda}$ ) hyperon in polarized $p$ + $p$ collisions are expected to be sensitive to the helicity distribution and transversity distribution of the $s(\bar{s})$ quark in proton and the corresponding polarized fragmentation functions. This contribution presents the new preliminary results of the $\Lambda(\bar{\Lambda}$ ) $D_{LL}$ and $D_{TT}$ using data collected at RHIC-STAR experiment in 2015, with twice larger statistics than previously published results.
Yukawa-Lorentz symmetry of interacting non-Hermitian birefringent Dirac fermions

The energy spectra of linearly dispersing gapless spin-3/2 Dirac fermions display birefringence, featuring two effective Fermi velocities, thus breaking the space-time Lorentz symmetry. Here, we consider a non-Hermitian (NH) generalization of this scenario by introducing a masslike anti-Hermitian birefringent Dirac operator to its Hermitian counterpart. The resulting NH operator shows real eigenvalue spectra over an extended NH parameter regime, and a combination of non-spatial and discrete rotational symmetries protects the gapless nature of such quasiparticles. However, at the brink of dynamic mass generation, triggered by Hubbardlike local interactions, the birefringent parameter always vanishes under coarse grain due to the Yukawa-type interactions with scalar bosonic order-parameter fluctuations. The resulting quantum critical state is, therefore, described by two decoupled copies of spin-1/2 Dirac fermions with a unique terminal Fermi velocity, which is equal to the bosonic order-parameter velocity, thereby fostering an emergent space-time Lorentz symmetry. Furthermore, depending on the internal algebra between the anti-Hermitian birefringent Dirac operator and the candidate mass order, the system achieves the emergent Yukawa-Lorentz symmetry either by maintaining its non-Hermiticity or by recovering a full Hermiticity. We discuss the resulting quantum critical phenomena and possible microscopic realizations of the proposed scenarios.
