• DIS physics at the EIC and LHeC and connections to the future LHC and $\nu$A programs

  Deeply-inelastic scattering (DIS) stands to enter a golden age with the prospect of precision programs at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and Large Hadron-electron Collider (LHeC). While these programs will be of considerable importance to resolving longstanding issues in (non)perturbative QCD as well as hadronic and nuclear structure, they will also have valuable implications for a wider range of physics at the Energy and Intensity Frontiers, including at the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) and future $\nu A$ facilities. In this plenary contribution, we highlight a number of salient examples of the potential HEP impact from the complementary EIC and LHeC programs drawn from their respective Yellow Report and Whitepaper. Interested readers are encouraged to consult the extensive studies and literature from which these examples are taken for more detail.

• Accessing quark GPDs in diffractive events at an electron-ion collider

  We discuss two collider processes which combine a diffractively produced $\rho$ meson separated by a large rapidity gap from a hard exclusive scattering of a Pomeron on a nucleon, giving rise to a lepton pair or to a second meson. These two processes probe the nucleon quark content described by generalized parton distributions in a very specific way.

• Entanglement, partial set of measurements, and diagonality of the density matrix in the parton model

  To study quantum properties of the hadron wavefunction at small x, we derived the reduced density matrix for soft gluons in the CGC framework. We explicitly showed that the reduced density matrix is not diagonal in the particle number basis. The off-diagonal components are usually ignored in the conventional parton model. We thus defined the density matrix of ignorance by keeping only the part of the reduced density matrix which can be probed in a limited set of experimental measurements. We calculated Von Neumann entropy for both the reduced and ignorance density matrices. The entropy of ignorance is always greater than the entanglement entropy (computed drom the reduced density matrix) of gluons. Finally, we showed that the CGC reduced density matrix for soft gluons can be diagonalized in a thermal basis with Boltzmann weights suggesting thermalization of new quasi-particle states which we dubbed entangolons.

• Gluon pseudo-distributions at short distances

  We present the results that are necessary in the ongoing lattice calculations of the gluon parton distribution functions (PDFs) within the pseudo-PDF approach. We identify the two-gluon correlator functions that contain the invariant amplitude determining the gluon PDF in the light-cone $z^2 \to 0$ limit, and perform one-loop calculations in the coordinate representation in an explicitly gauge-invariant form. Ultraviolet (UV) terms, which contain $\ln (-z^2)$-dependence cancel in the reduced Ioffe-time distribution (ITD), and we obtain the matching relation between the reduced ITD and the light-cone ITD. Using a kernel form, we get a direct connection between lattice data for the reduced ITD and the normalized gluon PDF.

• Identifying hadronic charmonium decays in hadron colliders

  Identification of charmonium states at hadron colliders has mostly been limited to leptonic decays of the J/{\psi}. In this paper we present and algorithm to identify hadronic decays of charmonium states (J/{\psi}, {\psi}(2S), \chi_{c0,1,2}) which make up the large majority of all decays. The algorithm is able to identify hadronic $J/\psi$ decays with an efficiency of 36\% while suppressing a background of quark and gluon jets by a factor 100.

• Pion GPDs: Constraints, modelling and experimental access

  The study of Generalised Parton Distributions is a hot-topic in hadron physics. Due to its connection with chiral symmetry breaking, assessing those of pions is of great interest. For this reason, we present a novel model-building strategy for pion GPDs capable of fulfilling all of the theoretical constraints required by QCD: support, polynomiality, positivity and soft-pion theorem. The methodology is illustrated with a simple model, and exploited afterwards for the calculation of pions' deeply virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) Compton Form Factors (CFFs) at NLO. The results show gluon-content to play the dominant role in pions' response to DVCS at EIC kinematics.

• Production of three isolated photons in the high-energy factorization approach

  We study large-$p_T$ three-photon production at the LHC at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV. We use the LO approximation of the parton Reggeization approach consistently merged with the real NLO corrections. For numerical calculations use the parton-level generator KaTie and modified KMR-type unintegrated parton distribution functions. We find good agreement between our predictions and data with the same accuracy as in the NNLO calculations based on the collinear parton model of QCD. At higher energies ($\sqrt{s}=13$ and 27 TeV) parton Reggeization approach predicts larger cross sections, up to $\sim 10$ \% and $\sim 20$ \%, respectively.

• Next generation proton PDFs with deuteron and nuclear uncertainties

  As data become more precise, estimating theoretical uncertainties in global PDF determinations is likely to become increasingly necessary to obtain correspondingly precise PDFs. Here we present a next generation of global proton PDFs (NNPDF4.0) that include theoretical uncertainties due to the use of heavy nuclear and deuteron data in the fit. We estimate these uncertainties by comparing the values of the nuclear observables computed with the nuclear PDFs against those computed with proton PDFs. For heavy nuclear PDFs we use the nuclear nNNPDF2.0 set, while for deuteron PDFs we develop an iterative procedure to determine proton and deuteron PDFs simultaneously, each including the uncertainties in the other. Accounting for nuclear uncertainties resolves some of the tensions in the global fit of the proton PDFs, especially those between the nuclear data and the extended LHC data set used in NNPDF4.0.

• Renormalization-group improvement in hadronic $τ$ decays in 2018

  One of the main sources of theoretical uncertainty in the extraction of the strong coupling from hadronic tau decays stems from the renormalization group improvement of the series. Perturbative series in QCD are divergent but are (most likely) asymptotic expansions. One needs knowledge about higher orders to be able to choose the optimal renormalization-scale setting procedure. Here, we discuss the use of Pad\'e approximants as a model-independent and robust method to extract information about the higher-order terms. We show that in hadronic \boldmath $\tau$ decays the fixed-order expansion, known as fixed-order perturbation theory (FOPT), is the most reliable mainstream method to set the scale. This fully corroborates previous conclusions based on the available knowledge about the leading renormalon singularities of the perturbative series.

• NLO inclusive $J/ψ$ photoproduction at large $P_T$ at HERA and the EIC

  We study inclusive $J/\psi$ photoproduction at NLO at large $P_T$ at HERA and the EIC. Our computation includes NLO QCD leading-$P_T$ corrections, QED contributions via an off-shell photon as well as those from $J/\psi$+charm channels. For the latter, we employ the variable-flavour-number scheme. Our results are found to agree with the latest HERA data by H1 and provide, for the first time, a reliable estimate of the EIC reach for such a measurement. Finally, we demonstrate the observability of $J/\psi$+charm production and the sensitivy to probe the non-perturbative charm content of the proton at high $x$, also known as intrinsic charm, at the EIC.
