• Muon Decay

  The decay of the muon has been studied at PSI with several precision measurements: The longitudinal polarization PL(E) with the muon decay parameters ξ′, ξ′′, the Time- Reversal Invariance (TRI) conserving transverse polarization PT1(E) with the muon de- cay parameters η, η′′, the TRI violating transverse polarization PT2(E), with α′/A, β′/A and the muon decay asymmetry with Pμξ. The detailed theoretical analysis of all mea- surements of normal and inverse muon decay has led for the first time to a lower limit |g V | > 0.960 ("V − A") and upper limits for nine other possible complex couplings, espe- cially the scalar coupling |g S | < 0.550 which had not been excluded before.

  Studies of fragmentation and parton density functions are a core component of researchin high energy particle and nuclear physics. These quantities are inherently interestingas a probe of the quantum nature of the strong force and are also essential ingredients toadditional studies in high energy scattering experiments. These proceedings provide anoverview of the state of the art in this area, as presented at the Deep-Inelastic ScatteringConference in the Spring of 2021.

• Line operators in 4d Chern-Simons theory and Cherkis bows

  We show that the phase spaces of a large family of line operators in 4d Chern-Simons theory with GL$_n$ gauge group are given by Cherkis bow varieties with $n$ crosses. These line operators are characterized by Hanany-Witten type brane constructions involving D3, D5, and NS5 branes in an $\Omega$-background. Linking numbers of the five-branes and mass parameters for the D3 brane theories determine the phase spaces and in special cases they correspond to vacuum moduli spaces of 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ quiver theories. Examples include line operators that conjecturally create T, Q, and L-operators in integrable spin chains.

• Classifying irreducible fixed points of five scalar fields in perturbation theory

  Classifying perturbative fixed points near upper critical dimensions plays an important role in understanding the space of conformal field theories and critical phases of matter. In this work, we consider perturbative fixed points of N=5 scalar bosons coupled with quartic interactions preserving an arbitrary subgroup $G\subset O(5)$. We perform an exhaustive algorithmic search over the symmetry groups G which are irreducible and satisfy the Landau condition, so that the fixed point can be reached by fine-tuning a single mass term and there is no need to tune the cubic couplings. We also impose stability of the RG flow in the space of quartic couplings, and reality. We thus prove that there exist no new stable fixed points in d=4-$\epsilon$ dimensions beyond the two known ones: namely the O(5) nvariant fixed point and the Cubic(5) fixed point. This work is a continuation of the classification of such fixed points with N=4 scalars by Toledano, Michel, Toledano and Brézin in 1985 [Phys. Rev. B 31, 7171 (1985)].

• Decay channels for double extremal black holes in four dimensions

  We explore decay channels for charged black holes with vanishing temperature in $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric compactifications of string theory. If not protected by supersymmetry, such extremal black holes are expected to decay as a consequence of the weak gravity conjecture. We concentrate on double extremal, non-supersymmetric black holes for which the values of the scalar fields are constant throughout space-time, and explore decay channels for which decay into BPS and anti-BPS constituents is energetically favorable. We demonstrate the existence of decay channels at tree level for large families of double extremal black holes. For specific charges, we also find stable non-supersymmetric black holes, suggesting recombination of (anti)-supersymmetric constituents to a non-supersymmetric object.

• Central dileption production in proton-proton collisions with rapidity gap and with forward protons

  We discuss photon-photon fusion mechanisms of dilepton production in proton-proton collisions with rapidity gap in the main detector and one forward proton in the forward proton detectors. This is relevant for the LHC measurements by ATLAS+AFP and CMS+PPS. Transverse momenta of the intermediate photons are taken into account and photon fluxes are expressed in terms of proton electromagnetic form factors and structure functions. Both double-elastic and single-dissociative processes are included in the analysis. Different parametrizations of the structure functions are used. Some differential distributions are presented. Some differences with respect to the results without proton measurement are discussed.

• Applying machine learning methods to prediction problems of lattice observables

  We discuss the prediction of critical behavior of lattice observables in SU(2) and SU(3) gauge theories. We show that feed-forward neural network, trained on the lattice configurations of gauge fields as input data, finds correlations with the target observable, which is also true in the critical region where the neural network has not been trained. We have verified that the neural network constructs a gauge-invariant function and this property does not change over the entire range of the parameter space.

• Particle Physics at PSI

  Particle physics results of constant value and significant impact have been obtained at PSI, and several efforts are presently ongoing and expected to deliver new findings in the near future. In this special SciPost volume we collect them together in a concise manner. Not yet included are ideas for future facility upgrades or completely new experimental efforts, but we are set to extend this volume in the years to come.

• On the Virasoro fusion and modular kernels at any irrational central charge

  We propose a series representation for the Virasoro fusion and modular kernels at any irrational central charge. Two distinct, yet closely related formulas are needed for the cases $c∈ \mathbb{C} \backslash (-∞,1]$ and $c <1$. Our proposal for $c <1$ agrees numerically with the fusion transformation of the four-point spherical conformal blocks, whereas our proposal for $c∈ \mathbb{C} \backslash (-∞,1]$ agrees numerically with Ponsot and Teschner's integral formula for the fusion kernel. The case of the modular kernel is studied as a special case of the fusion kernel.
