• Frequency-independent optical spin injection in Weyl semimetals

  We demonstrate that in Weyl semimetals, the momentum-space helical spin texture can couple to the chirality of the Weyl node to generate a frequency-independent optical spin injection. This frequency-independence is rooted in the topology of the Weyl node. Since the helicity and the chirality are always locked for Weyl nodes, the injected spin from a pair of Weyl nodes always add up, implying no symmetry requirements for Weyl semimetals. Finally, we show that such frequency-independent spin injection is robust against multiband corrections and lattice-regularization effect and capable of realizing all-optical magnetization switching in the THz regime.

• Higgs associated production with a vector decaying to two fermions in the geoSMEFT

  We present the inclusive calculations of a Higgs boson produced in association with massive vector bosons in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) to order $1/\Lambda^4$ for the 13 TeV LHC. The calculations include the decay of the vector boson into massless constituents and are done using the geometric formulation of the SMEFT supplemented by the relevant dimension eight operators not included in the geoSMEFT. We include some discussion of distributions to motivate how detailed collider and experimental searches for SMEFT signals could be improved.

• Optimal control strategies for parameter estimation of quantum systems

  Optimal control theory is an effective tool to improve parameter estimation of quantum systems. Different methods can be employed for the design of the control protocol. They can be based either on Quantum Fischer Information (QFI) maximization or selective control processes. We describe the similarities, differences, and advantages of these two approaches. A detailed comparative study is presented for estimating the parameters of a spin$-\tfrac{1}{2}$ system coupled to a bosonic bath. We show that the control mechanisms are generally equivalent, except when the decoherence is not negligible or when the experimental setup is not adapted to the QFI. In this latter case, the precision achieved with selective controls can be several orders of magnitude better than that given by the QFI.

• Differential measurements of jet sub-structure observables and their correlation in p+p collisions at √s = 200 GeV in STAR

  This analysis extends recent measurements of the jet sub-structure observables based on the SoftDrop algorithm in p+p collisions at √s = 200 GeV in the STAR experiment. We present fully unfolded multi-differential measurements of jet sub-structure observables at the first split and their correlations for jets of different transverse momenta and radii. We compare our measurements to various Monte Carlo models.

• The strong coupling from $e^+e^-\to$~hadrons

  We use a new compilation of the hadronic $R$-ratio from available data for the process $e^+e^-\to$ hadrons below the charm mass to determine the strong coupling $\alpha_s$, using finite-energy sum rules. Quoting our results at the $\tau$ mass to facilitate comparison to the results obtained from similar analyses of hadronic $\tau$-decay data, we find $\alpha_s(m_\tau^2)=0.298\pm 0.016\pm 0.006$ in fixed-order perturbation theory, and $\alpha_s(m_\tau^2)=0.304\pm 0.018\pm 0.006$ in contour-improved perturbation theory, where the first error is statistical, and the second error combines various systematic effects. These values are in good agreement with a recent determination from the OPAL and ALEPH data for hadronic $\tau$ decays. We briefly compare the $R(s)$-based analysis with the $\tau$-based analysis.

• Sivers extraction with Neural Network

  Psuedo-data with simulated experimental errors can be generated to train an ensemble of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) implemented on a regression to extract Transverse Momentum-dependent Distributions (TMDs). A preliminary analysis is presented on the reliability in extraction of the Sivers function imposed in the pseudo-data given the bounds on the experimental errors, data sparsity, and complexity of phase-space.

• Proton reconstruction with the Precision Proton Spectrometer (PPS) in Run 2 and the PPS at HL-LHC

  The Precision Proton Spectrometer (PPS) started operating in 2016 and has collected more than 110 fb$^{-1}$ of data over the course of the LHC Run 2, now fully available for physics analysis. This contribution covers the key features of the PPS alignment and optics calibration, which have been developed from scratch. The reconstructed proton distributions, the performance of the PPS simulation and finally the validation of the full reconstruction chain with physics data (dilepton events) are also illustrated.

• Prospects of a future multi-TeV muon collider

  A multi-TeV muon collider is a discovery machine and an invaluable tool for many new standard model precision measurements such as the shape of the Higgs boson potential. The update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics recognized the unique opportunity of a muon collider to reach the energy frontier, despite the challenges to produce intense collimated muon beams. The options of a collider at 3 TeV and a collider at 10 TeV or above are the main focus of the forming International Muon Collider Collaboration as well as of the discussion panels at the ongoing US Snowmass process.

• Reweighting the quark Sivers function with STAR jet data

  The Bayesian reweighting procedure is applied for the first time to a TMD distribution, the quark Sivers function extracted from SIDIS data. By exploiting the recent published single spin asymmetry data for the inclusive jet production in $p^\uparrow p$ collisions from the STAR collaboration at RHIC, we show how such a procedure allows to incorporate the information contained in the new data set, without the need of re-fitting, and to explore a much wider $x$ region compared to SIDIS measurements. The reweighting method is also extended to the case of asymmetric errors, and the results show a significant improvement on the knowledge of the quark Sivers function.

• Cover your bases: asymptotic distributions of the profile likelihood ratio when constraining effective field theories in high-energy physics

  We investigate the asymptotic distribution of the profile likelihood ratio (PLR) when constraining effective field theories (EFTs) and show that Wilks' theorem is often violated, meaning that we should not assume the PLR to follow a $\chi^2$-distribution. We derive the correct asymptotic distributions when either one or two real EFT couplings modulate observable cross sections with a purely linear or quadratic dependence. We then discover that when both the linear and quadratic terms contribute, the PLR distribution does not have a simple form. In this case we provide a partly-numerical solution for the one-parameter case. Using a novel approach, we find that the constants which define our asymptotic distributions may be obtained experimentally using a profile of the Asimov likelihood contour. Our results may be immediately used to obtain the correct coverage when deriving real-world EFT constraints using the PLR as a test-statistic.
