• Confinement, mass gap and gauge symmetry in the Yang-Mills theory -- restoration of residual local gauge symmetry --

  In this talk we want to discuss the color confinement criterion which guarantees confinement of all colored particles including dynamical quarks and gluons. The most well-known criterion is the Kugo-Ojima color confinement criterion derived in the Lorenz gauge. However, it was pointed out that the Kugo-Ojima criterion breaks down for the Maximal Abelian gauge in which quark confinement has been verified according to the dual superconductivity caused by magnetic monopole condensations. We give the color confinement criterion based on the restoration of the residual local gauge symmetry which can be applied to the Abelian and non-Abelian gauge theories as well irrespective of the compact or non-compact formulation, and enables us to understand confinement in all the cases. Indeed, the restoration of the residual local gauge symmetry which was shown by Hata in the Lorenz gauge to be equivalent to the Kugo-Ojima criterion indeed occurs in the Maximal Abelian gauge for the SU(N) Yang-Mills theory in two-, three- and four-dimensional Euclidean spacetime once the singular topological configurations of gauge fields are taken into account. This result indicates that the color confinement phase is a disordered phase caused by non-trivial topological configurations irrespective of the gauge choice.

• Mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to $Z$ and $W$ boson production and their impact on the $W$ mass measurements at the LHC

  We report on recently computed mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to on-shell $W$ and $Z$ boson production. We use these differential predictions to estimate their impact on the $W$ boson mass determination at the LHC.

• Josephson current through the SYK model

  We calculate the equilibrium Josephson current through a disordered interacting quantum dot described by a Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model fully contacted by two BCS superconductors, such that all modes of the dot contribute to the coupling, which encodes hopping and spin-flip processes. We show that, at zero temperature and at the conformal limit, i.e. in the strong interacting limit, the Josephson current is suppressed by $U$, the strength of the interaction, as ln(U)/U and becomes universal, namely it gets independent on the superconducting gap. At finite temperature, instead, it depends on the ratio between the gap and the temperature. A proximity effect exists but the self-energy corrections induced by the coupling with the superconducting leads seem subleading as compared to the interaction self-energy and the tunneling matrix for large number of particles. Finally we compare the results of the original four-fermion model with those obtained considering zero interaction, two-fermions and a generalized $q$-fermion model.

• Inferring correlated distributions: Boosted top jets

  Improving the understanding of signal and background distributions in signal-region is a valuable key to enhance any analysis in collider physics. This is usually a difficult task because –among others– signal and backgrounds are hard to discriminate in signal-region, simulations may reach a limit of reliability if they need to model non-perturbative QCD, and distributions are multi-dimensional and many times may be correlated within each class. Bayesian density estimation is a technique that leverages prior knowledge and data correlations to effectively extract information from data in signal-region. In this work we extend previous works on data-driven mixture models for meaningful unsupervised signal extraction in collider physics to incorporate correlations between features. Using a standard dataset of top and QCD jets, we show how simulators, despite having an expected bias, can be used to inject sufficient inductive nuance into an inference model in terms of priors to then be corrected by data and estimate the true correlated distributions between features within each class. We compare the model with and without correlations to show how the signal extraction is sensitive to their inclusion and we quantify the improvement due to the inclusion of correlations using both supervised and unsupervised metrics.

• Ground state of the staggered Heisenberg-Γ honeycomb model in a magnetic field

  We study the ground state properties of the S=1/2 staggered Heisenberg-$\Gamma$ honeycomb model under a magnetic field based on analytical and numerical methods. Our calculations show that the conventional zigzag and stripy phases are favored because of the staggered Heisenberg interaction away from the pure $\Gamma$ limit. In our classical analysis, we find that the field induces a series of competing magnetic phases with relatively large unit cells in the region sandwiched between the two magnetic phases with long-range ordering. In the quantum treatment, these large magnetic unit cells are destabilized by strong quantum fluctuations that result in the stabilization of a gapless quantum spin liquid behavior. In a honeycomb $\Gamma$ magnet, we disclose an intermediate-field gapless quantum spin liquid phase driven by a tilted field away from the out-of-plane direction only for a narrow region between the low-field zigzag and high-field fully polarized phases.

• TAMBO: Searching for tau neutrinos in the Peruvian Andes

  TAMBO is a planned next-generation neutrino observatory sensitive to 1-100 PeV Earth-skimming tau neutrinos. This tau neutrino specificity will provide a high-purity sample of astrophysical neutrinos whose locations on the sky can then be used to improve the sensitivities of all-flavor neutrino observatories. The observatory will be located in a deep canyon and will comprise an array of water-Cherenkov and plastic scintillator air-shower detectors. In this proceeding, I will summarize the current status of the updated TAMBO simulation package, which is currently being used for detector optimization and reconstruction studies.

• Searches for new physics that couple with third generation fermions

  The $\tau$ lepton, with a mass of $1776.86 ± 0.12$ MeV, is unique in its ability to decay into hadrons and a neutrino. Approximately one-third of $\tau$ decays produce an electron or a muon and two neutrinos, denoted as $\tau_e$ and $\tau_\mu$. The remaining decays, mainly involving hadrons and a tau neutrino, are denoted as $\tau_h$. At the CERN LHC, searches involving $\tau$ leptons are crucial for studying the decay of Higgs bosons to $\tau$ pairs, probing Yukawa couplings, and CP properties of the Higgs. These measurements support Standard Model (SM) tests and searches for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics, including new or heavy Higgs bosons, leptoquarks, supersymmetric particles, or gauge bosons. The $\tau$ lepton polarization in Z boson decays is also significant for probing the SM. Despite its potential as a portal to new physics, the $\tau$ lepton's decay products, especially neutrinos and hadrons, make its reconstruction and identification challenging at the LHC. At the CMS experiment, neutrinos contribute to Missing Transverse Energy (MET), and hadronically decaying $\tau$ leptons are often misidentified as jets, complicating the separation of $\tau$-involved processes from background processes.

  A simplicial framework for the gerbe-theoretic modelling of supercharged-loop dynamics in the presence of worldsheet defects is discussed whose equivariantisation with respect to global supersymmetries of the bulk theory and subsequent orbit decomposition lead to a natural stratification of and cohomological superselection rules for target-space supergeometry, expected to encode essential information on the quantised 2d field theory. A physically relevant example is analysed in considerable detail.

• Precision $e^-$ beam polarimetry at an $e^+e^-$ B factory using tau-pair events

  A novel technique for measuring the average beam polarization in $e^+e^-$ collisions, known as Tau Polarimetry, has been developed by the BABAR collaboration. This technique makes use of the relationship between the polarization of the beams, the resulting polarization of the $\tau^+\tau^-$ produced, and the kinematics of the decay products. Using this technique BABAR has measured the average $e^-$ beam polarization of PEP-II to be 0.0034 $± 0.0024_{stat} ± 0.0029_{sys}$. This technique is expected to be used at Belle II after a proposed polarization upgrade as the most precise method with which beam polarization can be determined.

• The Scattering and Neutrino Detector at the LHC

  SND@LHC is a compact experiment that will detect high energy neutrinos produced by heavy flavour quarks at the LHC in the pseudo-rapidity region 7.2 $< \eta <$ 8.6. It is an hybrid system, comprising nuclear emulsions and electronic detectors, that allows all three $\nu$ flavours to be distinguished, thus opening an unique opportunity to probe the physics of charm production in the very forward region. The first phase aims at operating the detector throughout LHC Run 3 collecting a total of 150 fb$^{-1}$. The electronic subdetectors were assembled in the summer and recently operated in test beams.
