• Entanglement dynamics with string measurement operators

  We explain how to apply a Gaussian-preserving operator to a fermionic Gaussian state. We use this method to study the evolution of the entanglement entropy of an Ising spin chain undergoing a quantum-jump dynamics with string measurement operators. We find that, for finite-range string operators, the asymptotic entanglement entropy exhibits a crossover from a logarithmic to an area-law scaling with the system size, depending on the Hamiltonian parameters as well as on the measurement strength. For ranges of the string which scale extensively with the system size, the asymptotic entanglement entropy shows a volume-law scaling, independently of the measurement strength and the Hamiltonian dynamics. The same behavior is observed for the measurement-only dynamics, suggesting that measurements may play a leading role in this context.

• Precision-machine learning for the matrix element method

  The matrix element method is the LHC inference method of choice for limited statistics. We present a dedicated machine learning framework, based on efficient phase-space integration, a learned acceptance and transfer function. It is based on a choice of INN and diffusion networks, and a transformer to solve jet combinatorics. We showcase this setup for the CP-phase of the top Yukawa coupling in associated Higgs and single-top production.

• Real-time evolution in the Hubbard model with infinite repulsion

  We consider the real-time evolution of the Hubbard model in the limit of infinite coupling. In this limit the Hamiltonian of the system is mapped into a number-conserving quadratic form of spinless fermions, i.e. the tight binding model. The relevant local observables, however, do not transform well under this mapping and take very complicated expressions in terms of the spinless fermions. Here we show that for two classes of interesting observables the quench dynamics from product states in the occupation basis can be determined exactly in terms of correlations in the tight-binding model. In particular, we show that the time evolution of any function of the total density of particles is mapped directly into that of the same function of the density of spinless fermions in the tight-binding model. Moreover, we express the two-point functions of the spin-full fermions at any time after the quench in terms of correlations of the tight binding model. This sum is generically very complicated but we show that it leads to simple explicit expressions for the time evolution of the densities of the two separate species and the correlations between a point at the boundary and one in the bulk when evolving from the so called generalised nested Néel states.

• A normalized autoencoder for LHC triggers

  Autoencoders are an effective analysis tool for the LHC, as they represent one of its main goal of finding physics beyond the Standard Model. The key challenge is that out-of-distribution anomaly searches based on the compressibility of features do not apply to the LHC, while existing density-based searches lack performance. We present the first autoencoder which identifies anomalous jets symmetrically in the directions of higher and lower complexity. The normalized autoencoder combines a standard bottleneck architecture with a well-defined probabilistic description. It works better than all available autoencoders for top vs QCD jets and reliably identifies different dark-jet signals.

• Lattice Clifford fractons and their Chern-Simons-like theory

  We use Dirac matrix representations of the Clifford algebra to build fracton models on the lattice and their effective Chern-Simons-like theory. As an example we build lattice fractons in odd $D$ spatial dimensions and their $(D+1)$ effective theory. The model possesses an anti-symmetric $K$ matrix resembling that of hierarchical quantum Hall states. The gauge charges are conserved in sub-dimensional manifolds which ensures the fractonic behavior. The construction extends to any lattice fracton model built from commuting projectors and with tensor products of spin-$1/2$ degrees of freedom at the sites.

• A spectator-model way to transverse-momentum-dependent gluon distribution functions

  We present exploratory analyses of the 3D gluon content of the proton via a study of unpolarized and polarized gluon TMDs at twist-2, calculated in a spectator model for the parent nucleon. Our approach embodies a flexible parametrization for the spectator-mass function, suited to describe both moderate and small-$x$ effects. All these studies can serve as a useful guidance in the investigation of the gluon dynamics inside nucleons and nuclei, which constitutes one of the major goals of new-generation colliding machines, as the EIC, the HL-LHC, NICA, and the FPF.

• Anomalies of generalized symmetries from solitonic defects

  We propose the general idea that 't Hooft anomalies of generalized global symmetries can be understood in terms of the properties of solitonic defects, which generically are non-topological defects. The defining property of such defects is that they act as sources for background fields of generalized symmetries. 't Hooft anomalies arise when solitonic defects are charged under these generalized symmetries. We illustrate this idea for several kinds of anomalies in various spacetime dimensions. A systematic exploration is performed in 3d for 0-form, 1-form, and 2-group symmetries, whose 't Hooft anomalies are related to two special types of solitonic defects, namely vortex line defects and monopole operators. This analysis is supplemented with detailed computations of such anomalies in a large class of 3d gauge theories. Central to this computation is the determination of the gauge and 0-form charges of a variety of monopole operators: these involve standard gauge monopole operators, but also fractional gauge monopole operators, as well as monopole operators for 0-form symmetries. The charges of these monopole operators mainly receive contributions from Chern-Simons terms and fermions in the matter content. Along the way, we interpret the vanishing of the global gauge and ABJ anomalies, which are anomalies not captured by local anomaly polynomials, as the requirement that gauge monopole operators and mixed monopole operators for 0-form and gauge symmetries have non-fractional integer charges.

• Transport signature of the magnetic Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition

  Motivated by recent experimental progress in 2D magnetism, we theoretically study spin transport in 2D easy-plane magnets at finite temperatures across the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) phase transition, by developing a duality mapping to the 2+1D electromagnetism with the full account of spin's finite lifetime. In particular, we find that the non-conservation of spin gives rise to a distinct signature across the BKT transition, with the spin current decaying with distance power-law (exponentially) below (above) the transition; this is detectable in the proposed experiment with NiPS$_3$ and CrCl$_3$.

• Completeness of the Bethe states for the rational, spin-1/2 Richardson-Gaudin system

  Establishing the completeness of a Bethe Ansatz solution for an exactly solved model is a perennial challenge, which is typically approached on a case by case basis. For the rational, spin-1/2 Richardson--Gaudin system it will be argued that, for generic values of the system's coupling parameters, the Bethe states are complete. This method does not depend on knowledge of the distribution of Bethe roots, such as a string hypothesis, and is generalisable to a wider class of systems.

• Nonexistence of motility induced phase separation transition in one dimension

  We introduce and study a model of hardcore particles obeying run-and-tumble dynamics on a one-dimensional lattice, where particles run in either $+$ve or $-$ve $x$-direction with an effective speed $v$ and tumble (change their direction of motion) with a constant rate $\omega$ when assisted by another particle from right. We show that the coarse-grained dynamics of the system can be mapped to a beads-in-urn model called misanthrope process where particles are identified as urns and vacancies as beads that hop to a neighbouring urn situated in the direction opposite to the current. The hop rate is same as the magnitude of the particle current; we calculate it analytically for a two-particle system and show that it does not satisfy the criteria required for a phase separation transition. Nonexistence of phase separation in this model, where tumbling dynamics is rather restricted, necessarily imply that motility induced phase separation transition can not occur in other models in one dimension with unconditional tumbling.
