• Workshop on Tau Lepton Physics: $\mathbf{30^{th}}$ Anniversary

  The first Workshop on Tau Lepton Physics took place at Orsay in 1990. The evolution of the field and some physics highlights are briefly described, following the presentations discussed at the fifteen $\tau$ workshops that have been held since then.

• Updated determinations of |V$_{us}$| with tau decays using new recent estimates of radiative corrections for light-meson leptonic decay rates

  We update the |V$_{us}$| determinations using the HFLAV 2018 report tau branching fraction results with recent new estimates of the $\pi\ell2$ and $K\ell2$ radiative corrections. There are minor changes of the central values and uncertainties.

  The Monte Carlo for lepton pair production and $\tau$ decays consist of KKMC for lepton pair production, tauola for $\tau$ lepton decays and photos for radiative corrections in decays. An effort for adaptation of the system for precision data to be collected at Belle II experiment lead to extension of phase space generation modules both in photos and tauola to enable decays and/or radiative corrections of additional light lepton pairs. The phase-space and matrix element parts of the programs are separated, that is why extension to processes where lepton pair is produced through narrow resonances, like dark photon, was straight forward. In the present version of tauola, the list of $\tau$ decay channels is enriched with multitude of exotic ones, useful for searches of new physics. The hadronic currents parametrization of main decay channels is prepared for basic simulation in the experiment. The basis for future work on precise fits of hadronic currents including Machine Learning is retained, but development of necessary software solutions is left for the forthcoming years. Presented programs versions are available in stand-alone format from GitLab or through the basf2 system of Belle II software. Official distribution web pages, documenting programs tests, are retained but not necessarily up to date.

• Strong coupling at the $\tau$-mass scale from an improved vector isovector spectral function

  We perform a precise extraction of the QCD coupling at the $\tau$-mass scale, $\alpha_s(m_\tau)$, from a new vector isovector spectral function which combines ALEPH and OPAL distributions for the dominant channels, $\tau\to\pi \pi^0\nu_\tau$, $\tau\to 3\pi \pi^0\nu_\tau$ and $\tau\to \pi 3\pi^0\nu_\tau$, with estimates of sub-leading contributions obtained from electroproduction cross-sections using CVC, as well as BaBar results for $\tau \to K^-K^0\nu_\tau$. The fully inclusive spectral function thus obtained is entirely based on experimental data, without Monte Carlo input. From this new data set, we obtain $\alpha_s(m_\tau)=0.3077±0.0075$, which corresponds to $\alpha_s(m_Z)=0.1171±0.0010$. This analysis can be improved on the experimental side with new measurements of the dominant $\pi\pi^0$, $\pi 3\pi^0$, and $3\pi \pi^0$ $\tau$ decay modes.

• Exclusive hadronic $\tau$ decays, within & beyond the Standard Model

  Semileptonic exclusive tau decays in the Standard Model are reviewed. As it is well-known, they are a privileged arena to learn about low-energy hadronization. They also allow for a number of clean new physics tests, which have attracted much attention recently, probing scales as high as a few TeV. In light of forthcoming Belle-II data, perspectives on this area are bright.

• On the use of the operator product expansion in finite-energy sum rules for light-quark correlators

  Tau-based finite-energy sum-rule (FESR) analyses often assume that scales $s_0\sim m_\tau^2$ are large enough that (i) integrated duality violations (DVs) can be neglected, and (ii) contributions from non-perturbative OPE condensates of dimension $D$ scale as $(\Lambda_{QCD}/m_\tau )^D$, allowing the OPE series to be truncated at low dimension. The latter assumption is not necessarily valid since the OPE series is not convergent, while the former is open to question given experimental results for the electromagnetic, $I=1$ vector ($V$), $I=1$ axial vector ($A$) and $I=1$ $V+A$ current spectral functions, which show DV oscillations with amplitudes comparable in size to the corresponding $\alpha_s$-dependent perturbative contributions at $s\sim2-3$ GeV$^2$. Here, we discuss recently introduced new tools for assessing the numerical relevance of omitted higher-$D$ OPE contributions. Applying these to the "truncated OPE" strategy used in Refs. [M. Davier et al., Eur. Phys. J. C 74, 2803 (2014); A. Pich and A. Rodríguez-Sánchez, Phys. Rev. D 94, 034027 (2016)] and earlier work by the same authors, we find that this strategy fails to yield reliable results for the strong coupling from hadronic $\tau$ decays.

• Reconciling the FOPT and CIPT predictions for the hadronic tau decay rate

  In a recent work it was suggested that the discrepancy observed in the perturbation series behavior of the $\tau$ hadronic decay rate determined in the FOPT and CIPT approaches can be explained from a different infrared sensitivity inherent to both methods, assuming that the major source of the discrepancy is the asymptotic behavior of the series related to the gluon condensate renormalon. This implies that the predictions of both methods may be reconciled in infrared subtracted perturbation theory. In this talk we explore this implication concretely in the large-$\beta_0$ approximation, where the perturbation series is known to all orders, using a renormalon-free scheme for the gluon condensate.

• On the scalar $\pi K$ form factor beyond the elastic region

  Pion-kaon ($\pi K$) final states, often appearing in heavy-particle decays at the precision frontier, are important for Standard-Model tests, to describe crossed channels with exotic states, and for spectroscopy of excited kaon resonances. We construct a representation of the $\pi K$ $S$-wave form factor using the elastic $\pi K$ scattering phase shift via dispersion relations in the elastic region and extend this model into the inelastic region using resonance exchange, while maintaining unitarity and the correct analytic structure. As a first application, we successfully described the $\tau \to K_S \pi \nu_\tau$ spectrum to not only achieve a better distinction between $S$- and $P$-wave contributions, but also to provide an improved estimate of the $CP$ asymmetry produced by a tensor operator as well as the forward-backward asymmetry, both of which can be confronted with future data at Belle II. • Deriving experimental constraints on the scalar form factor in the second-class $\tau \to\eta \pi \nu$ mode

  The rare second-class decay mode of the $\tau$ into $\eta\pi\nu$ could be observed for the first time at Belle II. It is important to try to derive a reliable evaluation of the branching fraction and of the energy distribution of this mode within the standard-model. Many predictions exist already in the literature which can differ by one to two orders of magnitude. Here, an approach based on a systematic use of the property of analyticity of form factors and scattering amplitudes in QCD is discussed. In particular, we will show that the scalar form factor in the $\tau$ decay can be related to photon-photon scattering and radiative $\phi$ decay amplitudes for which precise experimental measurements have been performed by the Belle and KLOE collaborations.

• Breaking Standard Model global symmetries with the tau lepton

  Properties of the dynamics of the Standard Model processes such as lepton flavour preservation and lepton, or baryon, number conservation, are usually taken for granted. The only reason is that it seems that these non-gauge accidental symmetries of the Standard Model seem to be conserved in Nature with great accuracy. In addition, the coupling of lepton doublets to the electroweak gauge bosons is universal and does not depend on the flavour. The discovery of the non-zero mass of the neutrinos and, maybe, the hints coming from the B-anomalies at LHCb, point out to a different scenario. I will briefly summarize some aspects of these contingent symmetries as seen from tau lepton processes.

• Flavor violating $\ell_i$ decay into $\ell_j$ and a light gauge boson

  The $\ell_i\to\ell_j\chi$ decays, with $\chi$ a boson associated to the $U(1)_\chi$ symmetry, have not been described satisfactorily so far for light spin-one $\chi$. In particular, observables exhibited an unphysical divergence in the limit of massless $\chi$, associated to its longitudinal polarizations. Based on gauge symmetry, we show how to correct this issue. To this end, we consider two general models realizing the effective field theory description. Being the LFV generated either at tree level or at one loop, these processes are well behaved for light $m_\chi$. We discuss the most salient phenomenological consequences and its relevance in the searches for this kind of decays.

• Implications of new physics in $\Lambda_b \to \Lambda_c \ell \nu_{\ell}$ decay processes

  Several indications of lepton non universality ratios, $R{(D^*)}$, $R{(J/\Psi)}$ and the measurements on hadronic and $\tau$ longitudinal polarizations in $b \to c \ell \bar{\nu_{\tau}}$ processes have attracted a lot of attentions. By considering the most general effective Lagrangian, we carry out a model independent analysis of the semileptonic $\Lambda_b$ decays, to inspect the nature of new physics. We constraint the new physics parameter space by using the chi square fitting. We study the implications of constrained new couplings on the observable such as branching fractions, forward-backward asymmetries, lepton non universality parameter and $\Lambda_c$ and lepton longitudinal polarization fractions of the decay modes.

• B boson search at KLOE/KLOE-2

  Following the many contributions KLOE-2 has done to Dark Matter (DM) searches, an alternative model, where the Dark Force mediator is an hypothetical leptophobic B boson, in contra-position to the U boson or "dark photon", is investigated. The B boson couples mainly to quarks and it can be searched in the Phi decay to $\eta$-B where B will decay in $\pi^{0}$-$\gamma$. So far, investigation of the $\pi^{0}$-$\gamma$ invariant mass shows no clear structure belonging to the signal of the DM mediator, hence, an upper limit in the number of events at 90% with CLs the technique will be established for the decay.

  Data with an integrated luminosity of about 370 pb$^{-1}$ have been collected with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. Here we present recent results on $e^+e^-$ annihilation into hadrons below 2 GeV based on a part of these data. In particular, we discuss measurements of the $e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-$, $e^+e^- \to n\bar{n}$, $e^+e^- \to p\bar{p}$, and $e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0$ cross sections, and study of the processes $e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$, $e^+e^-\to K^+K^-\pi^0$, $e^+e^- \to \eta\pi^0 \gamma$, and $e^+e^- \to \eta \eta \gamma$.

• Status and prospects for $\tau$ property measurements at Belle II

  Belle II is a major upgrade of the Belle detector, operating at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider with a design luminosity of 8×$10^{35}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. To date, the detector has recorded over 200 fb$^{-1}$ of data and aims to collect 50 ab$^{-1}$, a factor of 50 more than its predecessor. Belle II has a broad $\tau$ physics program, from high-precision measurements of Standard Model parameters to searches of new non-Standard-Model interactions. In this work, we review the status of the Belle II experiment and the prospects for the measurement of the $\tau$ lepton mass and lifetime, which are fundamental inputs in tests of LFU violation.

• Probing lepton flavor violation via $e\tau$ production in an effective framework at a future electron-positron circular coll

  In the Standard Model framework, lepton flavor is conserved in interactions. However, it can be violated in certain scenarios beyond the Standard Model. In this study, we consider $(e^{±}\tau^{\mp})$ production through a four-Fermi lepton flavor violation interaction at the future electron-positron circular collider (FCC-ee). To constrain the Wilson coefficients at four center-of-mass energies $157.5, 162.5, 240$, and $365$ GeV that have been proposed for the FCC-ee, a Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) is used. The main sources of background are accounted for, and the study incorporates realistic detector effects. To enhance the results, we combine the individual constraints obtained at each center-of-mass energy. We show that the combined limits improve the sensitivity to lepton flavor violation couplings by a factor of approximately three compared to the individual results and are competitive with the Belle II prospects.

• Search for lepton-flavor-violating decays of the tau lepton at a future muon collider

  Tau leptons can have lepton-flavor-violating (LFV) couplings to a muon or an electron and an Axion-Like Particle (ALP). ALPs are pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons associated with spontaneously broken global U(1) symmetries. LFV ALPs have been of a great interest in the last several decades as they can address some of the SM long-lasting problems. Assuming a future muon collider proposed by the Muon Accelerator Program (MAP), we search for LFV decays $\tau\rightarrow\ell a$ ($\ell=e,\mu$) of one of the tau leptons produced in the muon-anti muon annihilation. The ALP mass is assumed to be in the range 100 eV to 1 MeV and three different chiral structures are considered for the LFV coupling. Using a multivariate technique and performing a parameterized simulation based on the ideal target performance, we obtain expected 95$\%$ confidence level upper limits on the LFV couplings tau-electron-ALP and tau-muon-ALP. Limits are computed assuming the center-of-mass energies of 126, 350 and 1500 GeV which the future muon collider is supposed to operate at. We study the two cases of unpolarized and polarized muon beams and show that taking advantage of tau polarization-induced effects, the main background $\tau\rightarrow e/\mu + \nu\bar{\nu}$ can be significantly reduced. Results indicate that current limits on the LFV couplings can be improved by roughly one order of magnitude using the present analysis.

• Tau identification in CMS during LHC run 2

  The LHC Run 2 data-taking period was characterized by an increase in instantaneous luminosity and center-of-mass energy. Several techniques have been deployed in the CMS experiment to reconstruct and identify tau leptons in this environment. The DeepTau identification algorithm is used to identify hadronically decaying tau leptons from quark and gluon induced jets, electrons, and muons. Compared to previously used MVA identification algorithms, the use of deep-learning techniques brought a noticeable improvement in the tau identification and rejection of contaminating sources. Low transverse momentum topologies were addressed separately with a dedicated identification algorithm, while machine learning techniques were implemented to improve the identification of the tau hadronic decay channels. These algorithms have been already used for several published physics analyses in CMS. The algorithms are presented together with their measured performances.

• Tau leptons as a tool to investigate the CP properties of the Higgs boson at CMS

  Among the Higgs boson decay channels, the one to tau leptons can offer insight into the properties of the Higgs boson. The structure under CP symmetry of the tau Yukawa coupling was investigated in CMS by reconstructing the decay planes of the two tau leptons and measuring their angular separation. Tau decay planes are reconstructed depending on the studied decay channel to take advantage of the correlation between the tau lepton spin and the momenta of its decay products. Using the data collected during the LHC Run 2 data-taking period, the study revealed that the Yukawa coupling is largely dominated by a pure CP-even component. A pure CP-odd Yukawa coupling is excluded with a 99.7% confidence level allowing to constrain the allowed phase space for possible BSM scenarios.

• LFV searches by ATLAS and CMS experiments

  The appearance of lepton-flavour-violating processes in LHC proton-proton collisions is one of the possible ways that new physics beyond the Standard Model could manifest itself. This proceeding summarizes the most recent searches for lepton-flavour-violating processes and tests of lepton flavour universality with the ATLAS and CMS detectors, using proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV.

• Lepton flavour universality tests and lepton flavour violation searches at LHCb

  The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics represents our most fundamental knowledge of elementary particles and their interactions. One of the cardinal properties of the SM which has been thoroughly studied during the past years is the so-called Lepton Flavour Universality (LFU): W and Z bosons are predicted to be equally coupled to the three lepton generations. Hints for deviations from LFU have been found by the LHCb collaboration in $b\to s\ell\ell$ and $b\to c\ell\nu$ decays, sparking great interest and further motivating the searches for lepton flavour violating processes. A general review of these results is presented, including prospects in view of the LHC and LHCb upgrade.

• Feasibility of tau g-2 measurements in ultra-peripheral collisions of heavy ions

  The anomalous magnetic moment of the tau lepton, $a_\tau=(g_\tau - 2)/2$, is a sensitive probe of new physics but is extremely difficult to measure precisely in contrast to electron and muon moments. The best experimental limits were set by the DELPHI collaboration more than 15 years ago in studies of the ditau production in the $ee\to ee\tau\tau$ process. Ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) of heavy ions at the LHC may provide a unique opportunity to improve the $a_\tau$ constraints in the studies of ${\rm Pb + Pb}\to {\rm Pb + Pb}+\tau\tau$ process. We review recent proposals to study ditau production via semi-leptonic tau decays in Pb-Pb UPC with the available ATLAS and CMS data and discuss the feasibility to explore this process down to low transverse momenta of decay leptons with the ALICE and LHCb experiments.

• Neutrino phenomenology via Type-(I+II) seesaw in the $U(1)_{L_e-L_\mu}$ model

  We show how, $L_e-L_\mu$ gauged symmetry is used as the Standard Model (SM) extension with the type (I+II) seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation. The particle content of this model involves three extra right handed neutrinos, one scalar triplet and one singlet with the SM spectrum. We discuss about lepton flavour violating decays $\mu → e\gamma$, $\tau \to \mu \bar \mu\mu$ and anomalous magnetic moment of muon.

• Exploring neutrino masses and mixing in the seesaw model with $L_e-L_\tau$ gauged symmetry

  We investigate neutrino phenomenology in the $U(1)_{L_e-L_\tau}$ gauge extension of the Standard Model with symmetry following the framework of type-(I+II) seesaw mechanism. For this, we have added three right handed neutrinos, one singlet and one scalar triplet in our model. We show that the model can successfully accommodate the observed neutrino oscillation data and consistent with the results from lepton flavor violation and neutrinoless double beta decay process.

• Probing $\delta_{CP}$ phase and charged lepton flavour violation with $A_4$ flavor symmetry and deviations to tri-bi-maximal mixing via $z_2 \times z_2$ invariant perturbation in the neutrino sector

  In this work, a flavour theory of a neutrino mass model based on $A_{4}$ symmetry is considered to explain the phenomenology of CP violation phase and charged lepton flavour violation. The spontaneous symmetry breaking of $A_{4}$ symmetry in this model leads to tribimaximal mixing in the neutrino sector at a leading order. $\mathrm{A} z_{2} × z_{2}$ invariant perturbations in this model is introduced in the neutrino sector which leads to testable predictions of $\theta_{13}$ and $\mathbf{C P}$ violation. We consider an effective theory with an $A_{4} × z_{2} × z_{2}$ symmetry, which after spontaneous symmetry breaking at high scale which is much higher than the electroweak scale leads to charged lepton flavour violation processes once the heavy Majorana neutrino mass degeneracy is lifted either by renormalization group effects or by a soft breaking of the $A_{4}$ symmetry.

• T-violating effect in $\nu_\tau (\bar{\nu}_\tau)-$nucleon quasielastic scattering

  The production cross sections and polarization observables of the $\tau$ leptons produced in the $|\Delta S| = 0$ and $1$ induced $\nu_{\tau}(\bar{\nu}_{\tau})-N$ quasielastic scattering have been studied. The effect of T violation, in the case of $\Delta S=0$ and 1 processes, and the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects, in the case of $\Delta S=1$ processes, on the total scattering cross sections as well polarization observables are explored. Experimentally, it would be possible to observe these effects in the forthcoming (anti)neutrino experiments like DUNE, SHiP and DsTau.

• The Scattering and Neutrino Detector at the LHC

  SND@LHC is a compact experiment that will detect high energy neutrinos produced by heavy flavour quarks at the LHC in the pseudo-rapidity region 7.2 $< \eta <$ 8.6. It is an hybrid system, comprising nuclear emulsions and electronic detectors, that allows all three $\nu$ flavours to be distinguished, thus opening an unique opportunity to probe the physics of charm production in the very forward region. The first phase aims at operating the detector throughout LHC Run 3 collecting a total of 150 fb$^{-1}$. The electronic subdetectors were assembled in the summer and recently operated in test beams.

• Measuring three-flavor neutrinos with FASER$\nu$ at the LHC

  FASER$\nu$ at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is designed to directly detect neutrinos from a collider for the first time and study their cross sections at TeV energies. To date, no such measurements have been made. In 2018, a pilot detector was installed and collected proton-proton collision data of 12.2 fb$^{-1}$ at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. We observed the first neutrino interaction candidates at the LHC, opening a new avenue for studying neutrinos from current and future high-energy colliders. During Run 3 of the LHC from 2022, we will deploy a neutrino detector with a target mass of 1.1 tons. We expect to collect $\sim$2,000 $\nu_e$, 6,000 $\nu_{\mu}$, and 40 $\nu_{\tau}$ interactions in the detector.

• Search for upward-going air showers with the fluorescence detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

  The fluorescence detector (FD) of the Pierre Auger Observatory is sensitive to upward-going air showers for energies above $10^{17}$ eV. Given its operation time and wide field of view, the FD has the potential to support or constrain the recent "anomalous" observations by the ANITA detector, interpreted as upward-going air showers of unexplained nature. We have used 14 years of data collected by the FD to search for upward-going showers using a set of quality selection criteria defined using 10% of the full data sample. To distinguish candidates from false positives, calculate the exposure and obtain the expected background, dedicated simulations for signal (upward-going events) and background (downward-going events) have been performed. Results of the analysis after unblinding the data set are presented. Finally, the exposure and sensitivity for the specific scenario of a signal being ascribed to tau lepton decay are calculated and the corresponding upper limits are shown as a function of primary energy and in different zenith angle ranges.

• Probing new physics with the leptonic g-2

  We present a concise review of the new physics sensitivity of leptonic dipole moments and their interrelationship. In particular, focusing on the current muon g-2 anomaly, we analyse both high-energy and low-energy tests to confirm or to falsify it.

• A continuum determination of the strong isospin-breaking contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment

  First-principles lattice determinations of the Standard Model expectation for the leading order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon have become sufficiently precise that further improvement requires including strong and electromagnetic isospin-breaking effects. We provide a continuum estimate of the strong isospin-breaking contribution, $a_\mu^{SIB}$, using $SU(3)$ chiral perturbation theory. The result is shown to be dominated by resonance-region contributions encoded in a single low-energy constant whose value is known from flavor-breaking hadronic $\tau$ decay sum rules. Implications of the form of the result for lattice determinations of $a_\mu^{SIB}$ are also discussed.

• New $\tau$-based evaluation of the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment

  We revisit the radiative corrections to the $\tau^-\to\pi^-\pi^0\nu_\tau(\gamma)$ decays using Resonance Chiral Theory for the structure-dependent part. This channel is the most important one to understand the hadronic vacuum polarization piece of the muon g-2, which dominates the uncertainty of its data-driven prediction in the Standard Model. Using our results, the discrepancy between theory and experiment for this observable is reduced to $\sim2.2\sigma$.

• Status of Radio MonteCarLow and Strong2020 $e^+e^-$ database activities

  During the last 15 years the Radio MonteCarLow Working Group has been providing valuable support to the development of radiative corrections and Monte Carlo generators for low energy $e^+e^-$ data and $\tau$-lepton decays. While the working group has been operating for more than 15 years without a formal basis for funding, parts of our program have recently been included as a Joint Research Initiative in the group application of the European hadron physics community, STRONG2020, to the European Union, with a more specific goal of creating an annotated database for low-energy hadronic cross sections in $e^+e^-$ collisions. We will report on both these initiatives.

• Status of the MUonE experiment

  The latest measurement of the muon g-2, recently announced at Fermilab, exhibits a 4.2$\sigma$ discrepancy from the Standard Model prediction. The hadronic contribution $a_{\mu}^{HLO}$ represents the main source of uncertainty on the theoretical prediction. The MUonE experiment proposes a novel approach to determine $a_{\mu}^{HLO}$ by measuring the effective electromagnetic coupling in the space-like region, via $\mu - e$ elastic scattering. The measurement is performed by scattering a 160 GeV muon beam, available at CERN, on atomic electrons of a low-Z target. A Test run on a reduced detector is planned in 2022, to validate this proposal. The status of the experiment in view of the Test run is presented.
